File limits and "DRM"

Today I tried to put a 12 meg mp3 file on the phone through BT and it ran out of memory. The file sending goes through messaging, which means that it probably resides in phone memory before you tell it where to save so even though I had plenty of space on the MMC, it ran out of space transferring it. Is there another way to get files directly to the memory card without going through messaging? Would a MMC card reader work?

Another limitation I thought was very strange was that I can't send a MIDI file through any means: BT, MMS or Postcard. For BT it says invalid type, but for the others it says its protected. Now these are midi files that I put on the phone myself, not existing ringtones. I was even able to email it to my wife's motorola...

Did you try to send the midi file via email? I don't use the native email client, I use profimail and I just tried to send a midi via BT and I got the same thing as you. So I emailed it via profimail and it worked fine. Maybe Nokia doesn't want you to send midi files. I have no clue. Your first problem is easily solved. Go to your message folder. Press options, then go to settings. Then scroll down to other and press select. Change the memory in use from phone to memory card, then you can send the file to your phone 🙂

Icy- good tip, gave me back some much needed phone mem.

I have almost 6mb used and can't figure out where it is. I'd love to move a bunch to the card.

I would be careful about listening to what I say. Apparently my knowledge is very limited about this cellphone stuff lol

I took your suggestion and installed profimail, and it did let me attach midi files and email them, which even the built-in email client wouldn't do. Also, it came with ProfiExplorer, a file manager that allowed me to send the midi file though bluetooth, a welcome surprise.

Thanks for the tips.

No problem. Glad I could help. How much was profimail, or are you using the trial version?

I got it last year, got it on special for 14.99 and it's something I can't live without. Works good with AIM email as well as Gmail also.
