Might not be a Cingular Phone
I was talking with several people from Cingular stores and they said that Cingular has a deal with Nokia about Cingular only carrying bar phones with Nokia and no one else. That's why all the other phones Cingular has are all flips. FYI

I've heard this "rumor" before and I think it's BS. If this is true, then how do you explain the Samsung C207, Audiovox SMT-5600 and Motorola ROKR E1 (all bar phones) being carried by Cingular?

the way it was explained to me by my cingular rep was that we do have an exclusive with nokia for the whole 'bar' style phone, but models current when the agreement was signed were not effected by it. Thats why you see a lot of refub non-nokia 'bar' phones on the cingular website..bunch of old stock. The other side to the coin is the ROKR...but now that nokia has a flip who knows really what the agreement is. This all came up when I asked him specifically about the slvr.

All the candybar phones in stores are a "special" phone. (smart phone, i-Tunes, etc.)

That was about to be my question as well.
The C207 was planned and agreed to prior to the arrangement, The Audiovox is a PDA phone and the Rokr is a music phone (specialty)

Also how do you explain the PTT feature? Cingulars getting that and as far as i know tmobile hasn't thought about getting it. Maybe i'm wrong.

Ok...here's the truth to that. At one time, yes Cingular had an exclusive contract with Nokia to only sell Nokia Bar phones. That deal has cancelled/expired sometime within the past year or so.

well just so you know only t-mobile is the only one that has any being shipped to them as of now

I'm very interested in this phone and was told that it was coming to Cingular. Could you please substantiate your comment with some evidence? I hope this is not the case =(

well,ive been at motorola all week out in fort worth TX getting level 3 certified to repair these phones,and considering i only get phones from motorola that are flash with T-mobile software,and the fact that cingular didnt order any as of yet,because the documentation that i saw said it was shipping to t-mobile.

I worked for Cingular on an area quality team, and now I work for VZW... Any such agreement would not be discussed with store reps or put out as info or as a memo. Marketing agreements would NOT be openly discussed with employees. Store reps as well as other employees like to think that they are "insiders". However, I haven't worked there since June, so I had never heard about CING picking up the sliver... I hope they do... I stil l have Cingular... now I pay full price for my employee phone (RAAR!) I'll re-up for that sliver... hott stuff! If t-mobile gets it, I'll cry~ ;)

what jimjests said is exactly right. i work as a sales rep for cingular and we are not privy to marketing info or contracts with companies and what not. people who say that they ask a rep about some not yet released phone and the rep does not know well thats not our fault. and if some rep has some knowledge on these phones then they probably read it here or on hofo. we dont know when a phone is going to be released until shortly before its released or when we see the ups/fedex guy delivering them. they sometimes tell us that a phone is coming soon so we could take a quick online training module on it but its not months in advance.

i was in restaurant last night in Chicago i guy had the phone he let me look at it it had cingular software in it he said he worked for Motorola the phone worked & looked great
