Samsung SCH-i730

I recently purchased a 1 GB storage card for my i730 only to discover that the active synch will not sync with documents/files stored on the storage card. As I reviewed the seemingly endless pages of the user manual, I found a short blurb stating that the storage card just serves as a backup to what is in the phone's main memory. Not being able to store my database and other files that require synchronization on the storage card seems insane. Am I missing something? Is this how any standard PDA would work? What gives?
