First let me say that I LOVE the phone! It was absolutely worth the wait.

I have a couple of questions--yes, they may seem dumb, but please help! I am a new PPC/Phone user.

First--I am struggling to even know if the phone is on or off! I thought it was the blue flashing light, but that's not it. I have missed a couple calls because the phone was off and I didn't know it. Is there a clear way to tell beside pressing the little icon on the screen? Also, is there a way to know that the bluetooth headset is working?

Second--not sure about the EvDo thing--I have the unlimited plan so I'm not worried if I accidentally leave it on--will that affect phone function?

Third--there is very little memory available. I am a long time P...

Ask RINGO. He'll probably come over and show how he can wipe his ars with it! Maybe he'll even deliver you a Pizza!

But seriously, These are legitimate questions that should have answers in the INSTRUCTIONS. To know if the phone is on, place device undera microscope and look for the tiny little 1X box in the top of the screen. Make sure your microcope has a bright light if you are in the phone mode as the backlight will soon go out on the phone. So far, RINGOs suggestion on how to fix this in the "PHONE MODE" are WRONG!!! If you missed a call or have a voicemail pending, again look at device under magnification and look for a tiny bubble in place of the 1X.

Good luck.

I have been using this phone for the past few days and have found may things to like about it, but I have had my share of frustrations with it too.

The one question that I can answer for you is about dialing. I never use the keypad but opt instead for the screen dialing when I am not driving in my car. If I am driving, I will only use the voice dialing feature. At first this was a bit frustrating because I found it a bit challenging to get access to the voice dialing button on the bottom, right-hand side of the phone. To solve this problem, I went into the system menu, clicked on the buttons icon, and assigned the voice-mail function to one of the buttons on the front of the phone.

Regarding your question about knowing whether or not ...

First - READ The Manual on CD and then if you have specific questions, ask here or on pdaphonehome.com. All of the on-screen icons are clearly explained as well as the flashing LED signals.

With EVDO ONLY, an incoming call will suspend the data session and be put through. With everything else, 1X, BT, WiFi an incoming call will go directly to voicemail. On my phone if 1X is dormant a call will come through but not if 1X is active. See the Manual for the difference between the dormant and active 1X icons.

I only install my Today plugins to Main Memory and everything else to SafeStore or an SD card. Then if something doesn't work unless in Main Memory, I re-install it there. I can tell little difference in speed of execution betwee...

fmcgirt, great post...enzothacet, looks like your buddy RINGO is right, there is a fix for every thing if you take the time to learn how to use it!

I like the Phone, love the PDA. Is the phone as convient to use as a phone only devise...no, but you should know that going in.

ADPIMP, You are ignorant to say that there is a fix for everything. I have taken my phone to Verizon and they can't solve the issues that I, as well as many others have been venting about. I think that some of you are in denial about the fact that this is not the easist phone to use. Prove me wrong. Here are three straight forward problems that are not addressed in the instructions, can not be solved by myself or many others on this message board, and couldn't be fixed by the folks at my Verizon store (Not a franchise store). So please prove me wrong..You'll be helping me...Really.

1. Make missed calls show up as the last call on the phone menu and not just discoverable by the little bubble or having to navigate into the "call his...

1. I don't know how to do this except by a right click to call history from the phone app. To me that is not so bad. Also I haven't used a PPC/Phone yet that lets you do that so I think it it is a problem with WM OS not the phone.

2. Definitely a phone problem - probably a result of misguided attempts by VZ to extend battery life like no WiFi with phone on, etc. Hitting the send button again will turn the backlight back on and it will then stay on for the programmed amount of time.

3. I totally agree but things are strange there. On my 730 if I change the battery (leaving the phone on) when the power up boot is over the phone will be off and I have to turn it back on. However if I soft reset with the phone on it will turn its...

Thanks, FMCG--I do appreciate your response. I have looked at both the online manual and at the CD that came with the phone. What I am asking is if there is an easier way to check the phone/messages to see that it's on and working. I know that the icons show it, but when I'm driving or at work it's difficult to check those.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions. They have been very helpful!!

OK, the only way I know is to look at the signal strength icon next to the speaker icon on the menu bar. If the phone is off there will be a small "x" at the lower righthand corner of the signal icon. If the phone is on, there will be signal strength bars (and a 1X or EV icon) if there is a signal or an "!" if no signal. You are right that the LED does not report normal phone operation.

Thanks, Frank--

I am going to keep playing to see if there is a way to make sure it's on without having to look at the screen--especially when it's in the holster that was included with the phone. I am off right now to try to find a better case to hold the phone with.

Feel free to share any fun discoveries that you make while playing with the phone. I may have finally found a way to manage the terrible battery life, but we'll see.
