i730 vs Blackberry?

I am considering the i730 but see that blackberry is also a very nice technology piece. I have done some research on the blackberry and really do not see that much of a difference then what I would get from the i730.

My understanding of the major "advantage" for blackberry is that email finds you rather than getting online and checking it on your phone. (email is housed on different server).

Is that the only advantage over the i730? Or is there a function on the i730 that pretty much provides the same functionality?

Are there any critical features in blackberry technology that I should consider before considering the i730?

don't forget one major point:

the blackberry is a proprietary OS. the sammy is microsoft.

i'm in the same boat you're in...not sure what to get. thinking about the treo 650, but i think i'll wait for the i730. definitely not blackberry...unless my company forces one on me, which they're considering doing.

My understanding was that this phone was capable of receiving blackberry email? Am I incorrect? Can anyone confirm this?

I too am in a similar situation, in which the only way I can get push email at work is through Blackberry. I have been debating the Treo 650, this Samsung, and I bought and returned the Blackberry 7100. I need good phone features as well. The I730 pocket PC seems to do so much more, and if it excepts BB Email... solves my problems!

Can anyone confirm?

I know for a fact that the Treo 650 (for cingular) has a feature that will push your email to you (like a blackberry). I have used the service myself. I assume the 650 for verizon will do the same. going by the phonescoop specs the i730 should as well. if the 730 has wifi that is also a huge advantage in terms of IM.

The i730 DOES have Blackberry support. That is one of the biggest selling points of this device.

Thats the answer I was looking for!!! It is a HUGE selling point. DO you know how it works. Do you just take a blackberry plan from VZW instead of the data plan???

Will it work with a BB Enterpsise for Lotus Notes Domino Server, or only with the Microsoft Outlook Servers?

As a VZW employee I feel obligated to reply to this thread ... I actually think this may be my first time replying to a phonescoop thread (although I browse this thing for like the past 6 months).

Anyway, we have a feature that is available for all PDA/Smartphones called Wireless Sync and it is the exact same thing as the Blackberry Service. The only difference is like .05 seconds ... basically they are identical and one of the reasons why BB is doing so well is because of the marketing strategy it implemented and how it acquired a stable clinetel.

On a side note, one of the reasons why phone manufacturers are hesitant about putting cameras on PDA/Smartphone devices is because of the fact that the majority of the market who purchases...

I beg to differ on this point. I've been using WS since July 2004 on a Kyocera 7135, Treo 600, and now the Audiovox XV6600 and it doesn't come close to the BB service.

1. Security -- it sorely lacks here. Corporate email is sent to the VZW site and subject to a level of security which may not as robust as most corporate standards (8 character IDs including number, etc.). The WS Monitor may not be as secure as the BB servers. It depends on the diligence of the end-user to install antivirus and anti-intrusion software. The end-user must also be savvy enough to REFUSE to provide passwords to VZW support people when they ask for it.

2. Reliability -- It is subject to the availability of the WS Monitor which in most cases is not mai...

But now VZW says it supports Wireless Sync on their teaser page... hmmm. I would much rather prefer Blackberry Connect over Wireless Sync.

Agreed. Unfortunately, my company (over 3OOK employees in over 100 countries) wants us all to use BB and currently says that they will not permit Blackberry Connect clients to connect to our BB servers. I'm hoping they will come around once BB Connect is released.
