In a VZ Press Release due out on the 6th under competion concerns I would guess from Cingular/Apple ROCKR (which will be announced on the 7th....)
Notes:
New MP3 capable versions will be identified via a blue sticker on the box.
New MP3 versions will be shipped to stores as old inventory is depleted.

All this talk about the update, I attempted to acquire it directly from LG. Following is the email they sent to me (Just as an FYI) :
Dear Customer,
Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics.
The VX8100 does not have an MP3 player, but the phone is capable of playing MP3 tones through the MOD (Music On Demand) service that is offered and supported by Verizon. LG does not provide support for this feature on the phone. At this time, the MOD service is not yet available for the VX8100. For further information on this service and its availability, you will need to contact Verizon.
