THE MP3 PLAYER WILL BE ACTIVATED!
Exciting news for all of you vx8100 owners! I just talked to our regional Verizon rep yesterday. He told me that the mp3 player will be activated in a future update. He didnt know if it would be in the next update for sure but he did prove that an update enabled it. He handed me his phone (an 8100). I hit the play button on the outside and it played!!!!!!!!! I almost creamed my pants.
In other words, there will be an update for the mp3 player, but he did not have any date for me yet because the software update is still being tested. I'm hoping its in the next update though!

I don't know about a Verizon Rep having the newest software on the phone but I would believe an LG Rep having it. LG Reps get to test out the new LG phones that will be coming out on the market before anybody else. They also get to test out the latest software updates as well.

The rep actually is one of the testers for the beta update(i guess you could call it that). He said that it was all working fine.

Your right and also very wrong. The software you see in the LG8100 is similar to the 8000 and 7000. New phones will also carry this type of S/W.. Why you ask??? Well its a push by Verizon to make all phones the same so people don't have to learn different menu structures each time they upgrade there phone, That S/W is actually developed by Verizon Wireless. The function part of the phone is on LG. Which they fix issues that come up with the interface. Soon as S/W is released it goes right to VZW and they intern test the S/W and relay back to LG how it worked. I have tested many phones. I have the LG8000 back in August 2004 the phone was release in Feb 2005. It had and I tested 3 S/W updates before it was released. On my LG8000 I have S/W no ...

I'm sure the top priority for the update (assuming that there is an actual update coming) will be to fix the volume bug. No one knows for sure if it's even coming out or when, though. If it does come out, I'm pretty sure you would have to take it in to a VZW store.

It will be volume, camera and bluetooth (echo). My guess won't activate MP3 till MOD is available.

Are you sure of this? What's your source? I don't mean to doubt you, but alot of people get on this forum and speculate about things, but they phrase their posts as facts not guesses.

No, I'm not sure. Logical. Volume is major problem, followed by camera delay, then bluetooth echo. These are the major complaints I've been reading. As far as activating the MP3 player, they have nothing to gain until they launch MOD.

I was told the same thing by a VZW rep about MOD. He did say the update to enable MP3 will be thru *228 Opt 1. The Vol bug will prbably require a trip to VZW. But who knows - talk to 10 people at LG or VZW and get 10 different opinions.

This is not true. Currently no VZW phones are able to software update thru *228. That is coming in the future. *228 only programs NAM and PRL parameters at this time.

I was in NYC over the weekend and stopped in a VZW store in Queens and the tech told me that their is definitely an update on the way in mid to late October. I says that VZW definitely screwed the mp3 player up and that they are working on that and other complaints that they have been recieving. But the mp3 player will be operational as soon as they get the software fully tested. At least that was the word in Astoria.

Just remember... Like other aspects of VZW, this will be a fee for service item... Yes, the MP3 player may... And that is a big might, but maybe it will be available for Christmas... Fee for service - on demand music... Or, upload your own to the phone for a fee... That is, if they can ever get the software to work... As far as VZW software goes... Like the V710... It could take upwards of a year before the new software is released.. It takes VZW forever to screw it up...

You forget that there is at least one phone (e815) already offered by VZW that has a fully working MP3 player without MOD and without a fee. The upcoming Samsung phone also is rumored to have a free MP3 player to play from the memory card.
It appears that the delay on the 8100 player really might just be a software issue and that they'll fix it and hence enable the MP3 player. However, you're right about VZW's past practices and it's just as likely that they'll charge us for it and just cripple the other phones for everyone else too... 😉

Actually the tech I spoke to said that VZW DEFINITELY messed the phone up. He said that the software they put in was incompatible and that they had to nix the player. But like I said who knows what is true. "This is wwhizzard reporting from Cell Phone Pergatory. Now back to you Bob. 🤣 "

Well, kind of... The E815 is a V710 repackaged... As for the other... We will have to wait and see..

RAWFULCOPTER, this guys creaming his pants over the mp3 player. so good. will you be able to play mp3s while the flip is closed? cuz i hate havin to sit here and keep the phone flipped open. and renaming files to .mid gets annoying.

If they make a software upgrade that allows you to use the Mp3 player, I'm sure you'll be able to jam the speakers with the phone closed. It wouldn't make much sense to have functioning buttons on the front of the phone, if you had to keep the phone open.

I called the Santa Monica store and the tech said there's no update. 2530 Wilshire, 90401, 310-828-1279. Tech said he has the same phone and says you can only play mp3 with SD card. Of course he also wasn't aware of any issues with volume. Who knows. I might try customer service today and see what they say.

i called customer service yesterday and they said that there was no update that they knew of, they said to call LG and that LG would have a better answer.

i just called the vzw store here in baltimore md and the guy told me that the mp3 player will be activated by the end of the 4th quarter or when the mod is launched.so an update is in the future , i hope
