Cardo Scala-why does everyone seem to think this is so great? Tried it and it SUCKS!!!!!

I first tried the Motorola HS820 then HS850, and although I thought the HS850 was better than the HS820, they both were a horrible fit! So I then tried the Jabra BT250V and I really like it, fits very well, tight in the ear, sound is pretty good most of the time. I was overall happy with it, but kept reading posts on here about the Cardo Scala 500 and how great it was, so I had to give it a try. Anyway.....bought it, recieved it yesterday, fully charged it, paired it just as easily as the rest. Wasn't sure about the cheap feel of it, but thought, oh well, if it works so great I can get over that. Now it was time to actually use it. First of all it was not just extremely staticy, but it would also cut completely out! I had my phone on ...

Wow Mary, tell us how you REALLY feel! 🤣
I use it and I like it a lot. It's very comfortable, definitely better than the HS850 and I just can't do the Jabra because it's too bulky. I haven't had any problems with the Scala. It lasts about 7 days without a charge, and I don't get any static until I'm about 20 ft away. The voice command doesn't get cut off for me and it seems to work fine. I suppose not everybody has the same opinion on these headsets. That's why you try out different ones and find out what you like.

I guess I was just extremely dissappointed after hearing such great things about it. It wasn't just that it was O.K., it was HORRIBLE. Do you think maybe I got a bad one?

Hard to say...I got mine from Ebay. Did you buy yours in the store? If so, maybe you could try exchanging it and see if the new one is any better? Seems odd that it was so horrible. I've heard mixed reviews on some static but that's about it. But you agree that the fit was MUCH better than the Moto right?

I got it from Amazon.com. Yes, I agress the fit is MUCH better than the Motorolas. The Scala actually feels tight and stays in place, and is also comfortable.

Well I don't know how convenient it is to exchange it on Amazon, you may have to pay for shipping or maybe they send you a label. Yes the fit is great, but if it doesn't work right for you then I guess comfort doesn't mean much. Good luck.

Exchange with Amazon is simple. Go to your account and select Return Item. Follow the next few pages and you can print a shipping label. Return as defective for exchange.

Mary. Maybe you got a bad unit. I get absolutely no static what-so-ever. Occasional feedback to one person in NY, but got that on-and-off with last couple of phones. Clear on both ends. Voice command & digit dial 99% perfect, since voice training. Actually all I have to say is 'call' or 'dial'. Very comfortable. Only drawback I get is having to re-connect manually by tapping the MFB. Go mine from J&R Music. I had the Jabra and Plantonics. Voice command could not find anything after the 3rd day. Exchanged both units, but immediately got the same thing. Had techs check hardware and software. Fine. The Moto also works fine but can't stand the delay on incoming calls. Also, too low. I have now had it 1 1/2 weeks without recharging it.

Mary, I've been thinking the same thing. I have not been impressed at all with the 500. I called VZW tech service today, about some other problems, and brought up the BT headset problems. The tech I spoke with really sounded like he knew his stuff. He said he was familiar with the headsets I've tried - Moto 820 & 850, Jabra 250v, and Scala - and that I definitely had a phone problem, not a headset problem. I'm going to swap out my phone tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

My phone works great, though, and all the other headsets I've tried including Motorola HS820, HS850 and the Jabra BT250V work on it, just not the darn Scala.

Mary, I guess none of the 8100's work the same. I use the Scala and it is the best of all the headsets I have tried. My phone is fine and so is yours, which leads me to believe maybe the VZW techs are full of s**t and lying thru their teeth. I had trouble with voice command after the 3rd day with both the BT250V and the M2500. Swapping the units did nothing. Possible phone problem? VZW tech's say NO and it works perfectly with the Scala. Location? Don't know any more what to believe.

I actually brought this up in an earlier post.

The Scala is absolute tops for comfortability, but just based on sheer design, I've gotten a better signal with the Jabra since it actually goes IN the ear while the Scala only lays ON it.

Also, many of my callers complained of an echo with the Scala.

However, I'm now in the process of giving the Plantronics Voyager a try --it apparently just came out. It is also an in-ear headset (with foams instead of gels), much lighter than the Jabra though.

Unfortunately, I seem to be experiencing some voice recognition problems with it.

After reading all the threads here, location has to be a factor. If we all have the same software, then all the Scala's should work the same. I'm in NJ. Perfectly clear on both ends. No static, feedback to ONE person in NY (had this problem before - but I got it on phone also). This is what I can't figure. My voice command, after voice training, is almost perfect. A rare miss here and there, yet I'm reading some of you are experiencing problems. I also hear, re-connecting with some is automatic. Not mine. I also never got CW with Scala or any headset. Some do. some don't. That should not be a location factor. Phone check out OK, unless VZW was lying and wouldn't put it past them. Can't figure out.

Forget the Scala or Moto headsets. This is what everyone needs. Low profile, comfortable and you would never know that its on your ear.

Well i just got my Scala 500 from Amazon.com and its the newest model with the plug in charger. Plain and Simple, it sucks! I have been getting the same issue as Mary had. When around my house its staticy and tends to break up even with the phone next to me. Cover up the phone and it wont transmit through my hand. I walk into my room around 10 feet away and it breaks up. Thats just the first issue. So i go for a drive, the static is gone.. but now there is a new problem. Everyone i talk to says it sounds like there is really really bad wind noise like i have my windows down and im sticking my head out. Yet i had my windows up and everything including the AC was shut off.

I have a brand new scala500 if anyone wants it send me a em...

Try the H500. Haven't seen it at stores, at least not locally, but it's on ebay. Got mine from:

It's awesome! Fit is much better than the HS850 and HS820, has better sound quality, no static and only had 1 person 1 time mention hearing an echo.
