What does this have to do with the 8100? Can we please keep it ON topic?

Actually depending on your phone the call quality has a better reaction time and clarity on a CDMA network than on its GSM counterpart. Also know that Verizon is also the only nationwide carrier to carry no debt and the most reliable service. Of course if you live in the midwest you should have no real issues with Cingular compared to if you live in the west.

When your work requires you to be out in the boonies a lot, happiness is the network with the most coverage. And that is Verizon, at least where I live. City dwellers might be happier with other carriers, I suppose.

Hear Hear!

I live in the boonies (NC) and I had no reception at home with my Cingular phone. Had a neighbor who was a cop and she tried all the carriers and Verizon was the only one that gave her a signal. So we switched...
But it would've been nice to stay with cingular and have been able to use our phone in the UK...

I hear ya, not being able to use Verizon phones in Europe kind of bugged me. But i found a way around that, was easy enough to pick up a cheap open phone and buy air time when over there, gets the job done anyway. I text message overseas regularly and found the list of counrties that Verizon works with is limited. I've never had Cingular so i'm not sure how good their coverage is, but again i found away around that to, my contacts and myself just use msn messenger, and the mobile options allow me to txt to countries not on Verizon's list. works great! and there is no international txt fee.

You are right about one thing. My GSM did have better voice quality than my CDMA phone. With the GSM most people I called couldn't tell I was on a cell. With the CDMA, they can. BUT, the coverage was not as good. I guess it's a trade off.

Several people I work with have Cingular and say the service sucks. Many dropped calls. Usage: New Jersey, just about everywhere.

From an earlier post of mine:

we just returned from a trip to DC to visit my son. I took several pictures. Of course, the shots are not the quality of my Nikon digital, but, come on, it's a phone! On the Metro, he couldn't get any signal (he's with Cingular ). I had 4 bars!

I looked at Cingular last week and they would have matched up pretty well with Verizon for what I'm normally paying.

What scared me off of Cingular was that if the phone needs to be replaced you have to send it in to the manufacturer. I also didn't like the fact they have no tech support in the store. When I asked about it the assistant manager tried to get me off the topic quick.

Second was the unlimited internet access was 20.00 per month (but it includes all downloads as being free-ringtones etc). The rep didn't like the fact they couldn't match Verizon's high-speed internet access though.

I've never had a problem with Verizon's phone service so I'll probably stay with them.

All well and good that Cingular matches up price wise. What about customer service? SUCKS. What about tech support? There is none. You can't go to a store and trade in a phone. You have to rely on the mail, which means no phone for 1/2 days. If their phones are really that reliable, (don't know), I'm for it. I hate the VZW corporate - money hungry, lying scumbags. Lets see how long you guys wait for a software update. I heard 3 weeks. Believe it when I see it. I'm ready and my phone, like Mary's, so far fine. 😎 😎 😎

Customer service is the reason I DIDN'T switch to Cingular. I can deal with not having ringtones, I can't deal with not having someone back it up or having to send it back for repair.

Hello,

I just switched from Cingular to Verizon, and its a significant improvement in reception. I live in Omaha, Ne; and Cingular's reception was "ok". They offered a better deal (nights and weekends at 7 for $7 a month, and fully functional bluetooth), but at the end of the day a cell phone is a phone. I just had too many reception problems.

With Verizon I have much better reception in my apartment (I could only use my Cingular phone in my living room, not the kitchen or bedroom), I have reception at work, traveling around the state, etc....

Verizon isn't perfect by any means, the first Lg Vx8100 I got was buggy. However, I'll probably stay with them for a while.

That’s cool!!! verizon is a great company. I'm just happy with my black Razr and better call clarity and stronger signal then I ever had with verizon. I'm shocked about what I’ve been missing. 😎

I have been a Verizon customer for about the last 5 years. I used to have Cingular way back when and I could never get reception where I lived, and it was not that far into the suburbs. I also could never get a signal in certain building like movie theaters, or in parking structures. As soon as I switched to Verizon, I got reception everywhere I went. And the first time I had a problem (I think there was an error on my bill or something) the customer service bent over backwards to help me out. They don't even question what you want and pretty much will give it to you just to make you happy. I have not had to call for complaints very often, but when I do, I always a great attitude and a fast response from the reps. I think that Cingula...

(BTW FYI, I'm on this forum because I now have an 8100.)

As my name implies, I'd thought I'd pretty much had it with Cingular after years of being with them.

However, that said, as someone else here has pointed out, I'm still dealing with leaving the land-line quality of GSM for the walkie-talkie quality of CDMA.

BIG difference for me.

My biggest gripe with Cingular though (among other things) --short of their absolutely lame CS-- is constantly having calls dropped WHEN I HAVE FULL BARS!!!

And, of course, with that, not being able to get those dropped calls credited.

I've been a "free agent" (out of contract) with them for several years now; and I'm still in my trial period with VZW.

For what it's worth, I actually had a...

i am not sure how you are comparing cingular(land-line) quality and verizon as a walkie talkie quality, i used to have cingular before i started selling verizon, and the guy that works with me here still has a cingular phone, I cannot not tell any difference in voice quality and in my opinion my verizon is much clearer than my old cingular was. The other guy that works here was still in contract with cingular but talked his mom into taking over his cingular plan and he purchased the 8100 and has said multiple times he couldn't beleive how much more clear it was! maybe you got a crappy one or something?

All I know is that my "test calls" to VZW sound like:

"Elcome to Erivom Wireleff --we ever op working or you".

Pretty much any hope of hearing consonants goes out the window.

It's like the "treble" knob turned WAY down.

However, I'm actually exchanging my phone as we speak.

Listening to the tech's phone at the Verizon store, though, didn't really sound any different than mine.

Yeah, they were over rated by Consumer Reports, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, & JD Power. You sound a lot more knowledgeable than any of them. I'll run to Cingular right now.
