My impression of the S710a

Okay, so I was all hyped up about this phone and all like the rest of you were, now I'm not going to curse the S710a and call it a piece of **** nor am I going to be spiteful against Sony Ericsson, and perhaps maybe just MY phone has these issues, but maybe not. Either way, I'm beginning to be not so impressed with this phone.

-The RF, in my opinion, under par. My T637 out does it by far, hands down.

-It sometimes takes several attempts to send out a text message, even with full signal. Never a problem in my T637, unless there was no or low signal.

-Sometimes the phone will begin to ring, and then the ringtone will cut out. The same with the sounds of the keys if turned on, same with the first Alert type for messages, doesnt com...

Even the simplest things like BTing ringtones and pics from/to other phones. It seems to pair to things nicely. But, when i just try and send a contact/ringtone/pic/etc to another phone, it almost never works. My T637 would send to every phone i ever tried, first try.

Again, hoping it's a firmware issue.

I haven't had any other of the problems you mention. Although, the phone did freeze on me yesterday while it was checking gmail. I had to remove the battery. 🙄

I've had the phine lock up on me about 3 or 4 times now, it's ridiculous.

I kind of figured with the long delay on this phone, these issues would have been addressed and resolved, guess not.

Thanks for the feedback! 😁

well as far as all the problems ya'll hand, the key tones mess up to when i'm scrolling them so i just cut them off. umm as far as everything else my phone seems to be fine, i believe i have the same minor problems as ya'll but other then that my phone is real reliable, i tried out the bluetooth on the s710a with the motorola 600 and the motorla v710. now the weirdess thing happened. my phone could find theres but there phones couldn't find mine but when i would try to pair with there phone they would get a message askin to bond with my phone even though they can't find it. when i would try to connect to there phone it said conection failed. but i figured that those phones jus had bad bluetooth connections compare to mine since its more rece...

I have had trouble with moto BT connections... Sometimes my v551 will not connect to anything. It will see the phones or devices, but will not connect. this is my second 551 so I wonder if its a moto issue. My t616 always connected to everything!

i've used the S710a fairly regularly (well as much as any guy reviewing phones for this site can) since january.

i've not had any problems with the rf. it's been much better than any other SE i've used and at least as good if not better than most nokias and other phones. i haven't had any problems with the ringtones or alerts either.

i will, however, agree that on the odd occasion (say, once out of every 40 sms i send?) that the message won't send even when the status bar displays full signal.

not sure about the bluetooth thing. that's too dependent on computers and bluetooth software and whatnot for us to fairly compare. however using an apple 12" powerbook with built in bluetooth, os x 10.3 and the s710a paired and set to a "fa...

You erased your original post in which you referred to me as muchdrama! What an insult! But I'll forgive you so you don't ban me 😛 🤣

Anyways, I'm glad your S710a has been problem free.

Is your firmware Cingular branded or Sony Ericsson? Maybe that could have something to do with it? 😕

Also, like I stated, perhaps a firmware upgrade will help! 😁

sorry about the name mistake, i saw "dreamer" and it became drama in my head and ... excuses, excuses.

Do you think the firmware has anything to do with it? Cingular vs. Sony Ericsson?

And it's okay, I believe ya 😉

I've had the same typing problem as well. Sometimes the arrow buttons and the upper buttons won't register as well. I've had the phone freeze when playing a game and accepting a phone call. People complaining of poor reception quality. I can go on and on with the list. I'll be dammed if the thing doesn't look HOT though. People drool over the darn thing. Awesome speaker phone too.

Not a piece of trash by any means, but worth $549? Uh no. Having paid that price, I'm stuck with it, at least until the 1 year contract is up.

I was lucky and found a brand new one on ebay for $350. It was a buy it now and I wasnt even considering getting this phone but I couldnt pass that price up. I just got it today and its an awesome phone and yeah it does look HOT. Im going to the bars tonight so Im gonna take some pictures and show it off. Why? Cuz I can and no one else can.

The interface is a lil slow but I expected that cuz I had the T637 before this so Im used to it by now. The only thing that annoys me is that when Im typing a text message sometimes the buttons dont go to the letter with the amout of key presses. In other words if I want to type a 'C' I hit 2 three times but it will only go to B instead of C. Anyone else had that problem?

Does the s710 allow you to add words to the phones dictionary? My 616 let me do that and after a lil while i didn't have to add any more words!

yes. it will allow you to add words. when typing a message, press MORE then scroll to spell word. Any time you spell the word in that box it will add it to your dictionary.

I have been using my SE S710 for a week now and I absolutely love it. The reception on mine is second to none. I have always used nokia phone and they have been far superior to other brands in the relm of reception, but my 710 does not fluctuate at all. I currently live in a basement apartment and that is the only place I have seen any difference on the strength meter ( which is never below 3 bars)

I have had quite a few 'send failed' on the SMS, but I just go to the draft box and resend and it goes through. BT reactivation is sometimes tricky but other than that my unit has been great.

A coworker of mine also received his phone a week ago and he has had reception issues with his. Both of our phones are cingular branded.
