Discounts

Anyone know when Cingular will honor the AT&T business discounts? I get a 7% monthly discount and 30% equipment discount from AT&T. If the plans are changing for the worse at Cingular, I might wanna go for the $59.99 AT&T plan (800 AT, Unlim N&W, 7pm nights [I think], 1 yr contract, $9.99 extra line).

But, of course, I'm trying to structure all of this around the S710a, which I desperately want. I could go with the AT&T plan, but lose out on the rollover (and I'd have to buy an unlocked S710a). Or, wait until the S710a comes out on Cingular (but miss out on the 59.99 850 AT min + $9.99 extra line deal).

I'm thinking of waiting until the day before the plan rates change, and get a free phone until the sony comes out.

What would...

Because of the terms of the buy out, Cingular only has rights to the ATT name for 6 months after the buy out, which translates to the end of April. They haven't released details on how thats going to work yet, but it will require all ATT customers to migrate to cingular at that point. So you're going to end up a Cingular customer one way or another. As far as I know, the only plans that are changing fo rhte worse are the media plans. The 9.99 add a line might dissappear in the near future, though. My advice would be skip the ATT and get on cingular with 9.99. From what you've described, the add a line deal will save you more money in the long run, since you're gonna have to move to cingular in 3 months anyway.

Half correct...

The media plans ARE the only plans that are really changing that much for the worse, and that change does not go into effect until Feb 11th.

**NOTE** If you want a really good bundled media package, add the MEDIA WORKS package ($19.99/mo) by Feb 10th. As long as you have it, the company will not take it away from you. This includes UNLIMITED internet, 1500 text/instant msgs, & 200 multimedia (picture/video) msgs. On the 11th, if you want unlimited internet, you'll have to pay $24.99, and that will not include a...

But my question is....by only changing my calling plan (I want one of the new FT plans which allow 5 lines) I will NOT lose the 2 Media Works packages or the 1 Media Basic package that I currently have, because that is a feature and has nothing to do with a plan...correct?

Thanks in advance

That is absolutely correct. I was in a meeting over the weekend & I asked our account rep from corporate the same question. As long as you have those feature packages, the company will not take them away. However, if you ever take them off of the phones, you will not be able to add them again. Change rate plans all you want. I would be totally pissed if I lost my Media Works package. To get something...

So... by getting the media works package, the phone can be tethered to a laptop to get unlimited internet access, right? How fast is the connection speed in comparison to dial-up? Thanks for the heads up.

You can't teather to your laptop w/ this package. Some have tried it (& maybe gotten away w/ it for a little while), but the company figures it out quickly due to the much higher dava volumes that end up being transfered. They'll put you on the data packages that they have for smartphones, which cost much more than $19.99.

The media packages will not work with connecting laptops or pda's as stated above, those plans range from 20-80 for unlimited, and are completely seperate from the media packages- but yes, the media packages are going up and you are going to get less, best to get them while the gettings good.

someone please tell me where you are getting this info, because I work for Cingular and the only plans changing are rate plans and that not that different just a couple features. 9.99 is not going away now because evil V (verizon) just started there add-a-line at 9.99 and there has been no word on cingular employee website csp of any media packages going away. I mean think of it 19.99 for unlimited data, 1500 text messages, and 200 multimedia messages. they would be crazy if they took that away.

Are you sure you really have access to CSP? Email me (WingNut1981@msn.com) or IM me (AIM: Disciple247365) & I'll forward some materials to you. I have in front of me right now, a document titled "Consumer voice & data offer changes for sales job aid" that I downloaded off of CSP in .pdf format. This describes in detail all of the changes that I previously mentioned, & more.

Interesting. I have been under the impression that ATT kept the rights to the name completely which this article over at engadget seems to support.

Beyond that, I don't know squat about how the migration is going to work.

You and I are saying the same thing... I just didnt word it clearly enough. Cingular has rights to the USE of the ATT name for 6 months after the buy out. ATT long distance is re-releasing ATT wireless as a Sprint reseller late 2Q or early 3Q. Thus no one can be an ATT customer past end of April.

Well I don't know if you guys have seen any articles about the SBC/ATT merger. SBC is buying out ATT and they will probably make it a part of the agreement that the MVNO deal ATT wanted to make with Sprint will have to now be with Cingular. Makes sense right. Here is the article that Phone Scoop had on it... https://www.phonescoop.com/news/item.php?n=10 72

That was the reason I asked - since SBC is in the process of buying ATT and SBC already owns Cingular - I don't see them allowing ATT to give money to Sprint for use of their network.

If they do decide to resell cingular, they're going to have to buy out of the sprint deal. Sprint/ATT were making network accomodations for agreement as of December.

First Cingular kept the rights for 6 months to the ATT name so that their existing customers wouldnt get confused. But I doubt the merger of SBC and ATT is going to stop ATT from launching the new ATT wireless. The regulatory approval for that deal will take over a year to approve, and by that time they will have already launched the New ATT wireless name. SBC might scrub it afterwords, but I highly doubt it. A new startup carrier, whether with the ATT name or not, has not chance of truly competing with Cingular. Cingular has one competitor only, and they are beating them down. Boo Verizon, lol. 😈

Hmm, I guess you're right. Does anyone know if you can get the business discount in a plan that is already underway? Or, is it only for new plans/activations? If Cingular does honor business discounts in the future, it would be cool to change the plan that way.

I'm pretty set on the $59.99 + $9.99 to get 850 AT mins with rollover. Actually, I'd love to get the $49.99 plan with 600 AT mins with rollover. But, I need one additional line. So, the price works out the same since you need a >= $59.99 plan to get $9.99 addtl lines.

I'm not too interested in the media plans, as I don't send that many msgs or use wireless internet. Plus, that stuff can be added later, right?

One last question, what is the policy exactly regarding retu...

Just because you are no longer an "AT&T" customer doesn't mean you have to change plans. My understanding is that these plans will continue to be used by blue-side customers. If you want new equipment or enw features, then you need to migrate to an orange-side plan.

Just because the name is going away doesn't mean that plans are.

It's an MP3 player, it uses a memory stick duo, and I think the way it works is if you're listening to music and a call comes in, it turns the volume off on the MP3 player so you don't miss your call. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth, obviously. That's pretty much how I think it works, I hope this helps.

Actually, I've seen it for as low as $25. But no of course it's not worth spending any amount of money on it if your phone already has an MP3 player. But vanillachild stated that she was having second thoughts about the S710a, instead she was thinking about going with the K700 I believe. But the K700 lacks the 850 band.
