Sony Ericsson S710a
s710a and z500a simultaneous release???
I'm on SE's mailing list, and yesterday I rec'd an email from SE titled "Looking for the perfect gift?". It was basically just a holiday ad for some current phone models and accessories, but at the very bottom of the email was BOTH the z500a AND the s710a prominantly displayed side-by-side, BOTH saying "Soon at your local Cingular store." YES, I am speculating, but it seems to me that they (both SE and Cingular) are positioning these phones for a simultaneous release date. Anybody else get the same email and think the same thing???

I called around to every Cingular store in the area yesterday. Each person I spoke with, save one, said they didn't expect to be carrying this model. The exception told me that Cingular would not be carrying this model in-store, and if they did carry it, it would be online only.
I sure hope they are wrong. Getting an unlocked version is going to cost alot of money ☹️

That's actually not so bad, even though I'm finding it hard to believe that they would make it online only and not carry in their stores. It doesn't make much sense. Anyway, if it is available online then 3rd party authorized vendors such as Amazon will carry the phone. Currently, Amazon has this phone listed on their website with an amazing price after the rebate. As soon as they get it in stock, I'm purchasing one.

I did not get that email, however the only true authority on when this phone is released is Cingular. I really find it hard to believe that they would not release this phone in the middle of this month in time for the holidays. Everything that I have been told is that Cingular has the phone in stock, but they are waiting to make it available. Keep your fingers crossed, it looks like Dec. 15 is going to be the lucky day.

SE sent me the e-mail too. but I would have to agree with you (fone link) that cingular will try reallly hard to launch in time for holiday sales. unfortunately I also heard that it would actually be out early next year. bummer

I also think that Cingular is going to release this phone because I got a Cinglar circular that had a whole page on the phone. It didn't say when it would be released but it did say "coming soon" or something like that.

I got the same email. The blurb for the s710a says:
"Get the season’s most coveted gift—the S710a. With seamless swivel action, an excellent digital camera and great mobile office features—all in one. Soon at your local Cingular store."
Unless by "season" they mean the climatic season of Winter, that does sound like a Christmas launch. 🙂

it says "gift". As of the moment I can't think of any gift-giving holidays in January. As mentioned, I think that cingular will do everything in their power(same with SE probably) to get this phone out ASAP and that doesn't mean in January, as I also said I think they may do pre-orders, having them ship in january but avaliable to purchase in december, but I'm sure it will not come to that.

Well if u go on SE website, and looked up Company and press, u will see that they had a press release stating the s710a won a sciece or something award and that it will be available in December 2004, for 399 with 2 yrs contract. when they make a press release on a phone from the official website it tends to be correct, so i'm goin by this and restating the fact that this phone will come out in December most likly before christmas. Unless anybody finds out a Proven exact date for it, then i believe we should all stop talkin about these release date theories untill then.

Maybe you should learn to speak proper English..as for your derogatory (look that word up if you can find a dictionary) comments towards me, well they are just meaningless words and letters typed by an unknown source..they don't bother nor have any effect on me..end of subject..
