The E symbol on the phone with the arrow one direction and arrow the other direction means the phone has EDGE (or GPRS) signal. It means it is able to send and receive EDGE data from the GPRS network if needed.

It means you're using EDGE. (high speed data) If it goes away it just means that EDGE is not available in that area, so your phone falls back to GPRS.

No, it is the new indicator for GPRS, instead of the little boxes that used to be there on the old software. If that icon is not there, you will not have GPRS.

No no no, The GPRS icon still looks the same as on all other models ( 2 small squares ) The new software finally gave us the EDGE icon ("E" for EDGE, get it?) If there is no EDGE connection available it will revert back to GPRS wich is more widely available. If you dont see any of the two icons, you are outside the data network and will only be able to use voice (GSM)

Ok, if that is so, I stand corrected. I have only seen the E on mine so I guess I have EDGE all the time lol
