Hello, I just bought myself a new Motorola V551 on Saturday thru Cingular. I am loving thus far, however there are a couple of things I need help with. First off, is it just me, or is this manual really not that much help?? I have read it over and over and it STILL doesn't explain a lot of features on my phone.

For example, can anyone tell me how I can group various numbers under ONE NAME?? It seems that this phone has this capability, but I've tried and tried and can't seem to get it to work. For example, say I have the name David. David has two numbers, a mobile number and a home number. Is there a way I can group these two numbers under his name? The way I have it now, the numbers come up separately, where there are TWO instances of Da...

Yes you can group more than 1 number under a single heading. When you are entering a new phone #. There is an option called

Store To:

You want to change that so it says

Store To: Phone

That will enable alot more options for you. One of them is labeled

Type:

And that is how you classify what type of # it is. After you enter one number you scroll all the way to the bottom to

..MORE..

And enter in another number, email, etc..

Storing to SIM (the chip underneith the battery) enables you to move from phone to phone without losing your phone book (providing you save everything to the sim PRIOR to the move. You lose all picture IDs, Voice IDs, Ringer IDs, etc... storing to sim is phone # only.

As you are entering phone #'s save yourself some trouble and add the area code to all phone numbers you enter. It's an extra 3 measly numbers that will save you headache as more places require you to dial the FULL 10digit phone number (area code + phone #) even if you are in the same area code.

I myself do the 1+area code to all my entries. Saves an even bigger headache if I'm out of my home area code and need to dial something in a different area code. 😁

I'm having the same problem with adding new contacts to my address book. I tried having it save to the phone and adding 2 or more numbers under the same name using the "more" option, and all I get is multiple entries with the same name, but with their different numbers. Same thing happens if I save to sim card. I just got my v551 on Wednesday, and it does have the newest software version. Reps at Cingular say thats just the way the phone is, no way around it. Can anyone help me?

Ah yes - the wonderfulness of Moto's phone book! You're on the right track by doing as indicated in the previous response, but you also need to do a couple more things (at least I had to on my RAZR V3. I'm assuming the 551 is similar to the RAZR).

1) In the address book setup select "View" and set it to "Primary Number".
2) Then DELETE all of the entries on the SIM.

Yeah I know - it sucks !!!

But that's the only way I could get it to appear as I wanted (and apparently you want) on my V3 phone book.
