Bluetooth fails when phone is connected to power

I have the V551 and found an issue with Bluetooth use (actually Handsfree link use) with my car.

The Bluetooth works fine while the phone is operating on battery, but if I connect it to a power source, the Bluetooth fails.

My local Cingular shop and I tried this on my old V551, the replacement phone sent to address this problem and a brand new V551 from the store, all failed the same way. The Razr worked fine.

Of course Cingular simply want me to but a new phone and are claiming that it's not their problem...it's Motorola's. I have contacted both Cingular and Motorola to try to get some resolution on this.

Anyone else got a Handfree link they can try this with?

Thanks

Pete

I use my bluetooth headset all the time with my V551 plugged into the wall power adapter, and it works great. I don't use a vehicle power adapter, so I can't speak for what would happen there, but I would assume that it should still work. It may just be a problem with the bluetooth adapter in your phone.

My bad...I missed the part about you using some of the store's models as well, and them also failing. I'm still putting my money on something fishy being up with your models, though, since mine works fine with the power source.

Thanks for the info. I also have someone from moto checking into this issue. I checked the software release on the latest phone that I have and it's the latest version.
One other difference is that the car uses the Handsfree link, and I'm not sure if this is different to the Bluetooth connection to a headset...anyone have more info?

Thanks
Pete

Just got a new V551 on Friday May 27th at got the BT working in my car OK. This AM I tried making a call with my phone plugged in to the old Verizon AC charger in my home and got a "Called Failed" message. So I switched to the charger that came with the new 551 and it then worked.
Then I went to my car and hooked up to my old Verizon travel charger and the BT stayed connected but when trying to make a call the "Call Failed" message came up again. So I bought a new Moto travel charger ($15.95) and everything works OK again.
I think this is just Moto's way of separating us from our hard earned bucks. 😕

briano7,

You got it.

My cousin works for Moto and she said that there are known problems when using non-Moto power cords. I have since purchased a Moto power cord and all started working again.

So, for anyone with a V551 who is using a non-Moto car power charger (mine was a Belkin), watch out, the Bluetooth might not work while it is plugged into power.

I also gave this information to the Moto support line...they couldn't answer the question until my cousin informed me of the issue.
