Battery solution v551?

krav

Like I expected after reading many posts here, the v551 has really poor battery life. I tried the usual - charge and let it die for 3 cycles when I first got it. Am not running bluetooth, shut off the light on the display when I close the phone. Still, crappy battery times.

Wondering if anyone's found a solution.

I had the same exact problem. I ended up getting a new battery from the rep I bought it from. That battery was horrible as well. The next week they gave me an entirely new phone and charger with the whole shpiel that "this has never happened to anyone with this phone before" thing.

😕 Sorry if that doesn't help very much...

I too had terrible battery life and couldn't get past 24 hours without it losing a bar, and soon after dying completely. Tried letting it run down and recharge, got a new battery from Cingular and it got worse. The gave me a new phone and on the second it lost a bar, i turned it off during the night, and have had it on all day and taking pix and videos and it is at the same place. Not as good as my sony ericsson battery life but that wasn't as good as this phone. I'm not expecting more than 3-4 days from what I've heard but I can live with that. Bring your phone back if it only lasts a day.

My wife has a V551, and granted she does not talk that much, BUT, she has her phone on and it is lasting the better part of a week without recharging.

So, I dunno what that will tell us - is it the individual phones, the batteries, or the chargers that make a difference.... who knows. But from what I have read on this forum and others, many people use their phones in the same manner and habits as she does and they get less than 3 days without a recharge.

If the phone lasted for 3-4 days with light talk time then it would be about 1/2 of the 'advertised battery life'. If that was the only issue and it would remain static and consistant, well, I believe most of the ppl here would be fat, dumb and happy... or close enough for government work... 🙂

But, that is NOT the issue:

1) Batteries degrade over time. If I am dealing with a battery that BEGINS at 50% of where it is advertised, where will it be in 6 months or 1 year when Cingular will just tell me to buy a new battery? I expect some value with my phone purchase and that includes the battery life cycle.

2) Many of the 'horror stories' posted in these threads are not 'my battery only lasts for 3 days... oh poor me!'... several...

Well put, Matt.

A consumer should have the right to expect something resembling the advertised battery life times. If not, then we're just being plain lied to.

I know, someone could responde: take your business elsewhere.

Sure, would love to, but cell companies have us locked in with $175 plan termination fees. So, we've got a right to hold them to what they advertise.

Not to change the subject, but that brings me to the FotoFun Editor... i was shocked to find out that although it is advertised as "built in" to all phones, it is only available in Canadian Models... Moto's been definitely doing some lying...
