Locking the outside keys
Does any one know how to lock the outside keys on the V551? I put my phone in my pocket and accidently hit the keys on the left side that changes the phone to vibrate. I have missed many calls becuase of this feature. Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can lock just the outside keys, but locking the phone takes care of it. This is a bit of a pain though as you have to enter the unlock code to answer the phone.
I have a shortcut (not the same as a soft key) assigned to this function so that I don't have to go through all the menu selections every time I want to lock it.

You can lock the outside keys by locking the "Audio" application only. That way, when you hit an outside key it says "enter unlock code" instead of switching to vibrate or whatever. When you open the phone you can either enter the code to unlock it or simply hit "cancel" to get to the regular home screen. Also, when you use this method you can answer the phone normally (by opening it) without having to enter a code. How to:
Menu>Settings>Security>
Lock Application>Audio>Lock

The default password is 1234 of course you can change this to something even easier...I changed mine to 1111 for ease of access...

Tbanks again. This time I am totally missing something. I got in to the using 1234 but I don't see the audio selector. What am I missing? Also, do you find your battery goes down quick?

Yeah, Moto changed the name of "ringtones" between the V400 and the V551...if it is not under "audio" look for "sounds". Look carefully, with so many applications I would miss it almost every time I scrolled through...
As far as the batt goes, always condition batteries, i.e. do a full charge (full 24 hours) then use it until it turns off by itself. Do that several times and you should see improvement on your usage time. For me the main factor is signal strength. I live in a full signal area and my battery life is never an issue, but when I visit family where one bar of signal is all I get, my battery drains quick as the phone has to work harder to lasso-in that weak signal. So that is also something to consider.

It is possible to enable key locking on this phone in the same fashion as the Nokia phones. It does require that you have a USB cable, and requires that you do some SEEM editing.
The SEEM of interest is 0032_0001 offset 29 bit 1.
Setting this bit to 1 enables an option under the Security menu that allows you to push Menu * to lock all keys.
