I don't own one of these, but other than the fact that they are super-thin (& light), and have almost 7 hrs of talk time, I don't see why these are so special?

The fact that it's so thin and light along with the materials it's constructed of (mostly metal and glass) is what makes it special. Featurewise there's nothing on the RAZR that the v551 doesn't have for about $100 cheaper (after rebate of course).

The RAZR is what we call a "fashion phone". It's made to appeal to those want their gadgets to be stylish as well as functional. It's all about the look nowadays for most people and the RAZR solidifies that.

I don't believe it should EVER have been $500.00, no phone (without being a smartphone) is worth that much. Now that it's at a less exclusionary price point ($199.99 on a 2yr contract) it's a lot easier to justify. Not everyone has $500 to plop down on a cell phone with all the same...

You pretty much answered your own question - it's super thin without compromising talk time.

It also has very strong reception and doesn't frequently drop calls. Bluetooth is a "nice to have," but not huge for me. Adequate camera - I forgot to charge my digital camera before a day at Disney last week, but no problem - I just snapped pics with my V3. Plus a really good screen to view them on (for a phone).

But it's the thinness that got me. It adds TREMENDOUSLY to its functionality - for me - far more than any tech features it lacks. It is just so easy to carry around in your pocket that I don't regret for a minute having paid the $500 price (I bought it a couple of days before it went up for US public sale). I also wouldn't trade it f...

Ditto to the above.

Though I'd love to see it stay at $500.

Keeps it in the elite.

Of course now I'm beginning to see it everywhere, and when they come up to me to show theirs off, I then have to show them how mine does video and theirs does not. 😎

Yes, truly somewhat childish but ....

Actually the phone is pretty lame compared to other phones... so what its thin... who cares... the features suck... outside screen is only 4k? sucky... the camera is not even megapixel... all high end phones are at least a megapixel now... the menu interface is ok, but could be better... fashion and thats it. I would rather have a sanyo 5600. But its not gsm so I'll have to wait.

I would rather have Bluetooth rather than a megapixel camera, but If I was going to go that route I would probably get a SE s710a, so that I would get a great phone that doesn't compromise anything.
