I got insurance

I was able to get insurance. For some reason it wasn't available when I went to get my phone (at the store). I had to call Cingular that evening to add it and it went through just fine.

The two things that bothers me about Cingular is that

1) nobody knows how to set up AOL email on the V3

2) I wanted the discounted international long distance rates e.g. calling HK for 12 cents per minute instead of 89 cents. I was denied the service because they said to qualify, you must be a customer of over 12 months with an outstanding record. They do not say this on the website and I initially thought that you can add this service any time with an additional fee of $3.99 per month. This really sucks! Anyway, I hope that they will change the po...

I you go to the Cingular website, and at the very bottom it says, "billing and credit restrictions apply." Depednding on what market you are in, you only have to be a customer for 6 months to get the ICA feature added, not 12 months.

Say what you will people, I'm not saying this again. There's insurance on the V3. and if you do have it at this time, it will not be granted when you make a claim. Any doubts? just try right now, call Asurion and tell them you lost your RAZR... Be warned.

I just called cingular after reading this, and bought the insurance for my phone. The rep told me it was .99 a month and 50.00 to Replace the Razr.

I gave him the number off the back of the phone, and he called it to verify that it was indeed a Razr. He also said that paying 3.99 was better than 600 if i broke or lost it.

I got his name, and the time I called for refence incase Cingular doesnt honor this.

I just got off the phone with Cingular and they advised me that insurance was not available. I told them that they had charge me and therefore would be required to pay in the event that I had a problem. Her response was the best they could do was to refund my insurance amount of $3.99 As the insurance is through 3rd party they (cingular) are not required to deal with the problem. Any thoughts as I would like to keep the phone but not w/o insurance.

People can keep posting that they talked to so and so and checked with XYZ and they said yes/no. It's all BS. When it comes down to it, if you sign up for insurance and have a LEGITIMATE claim, it will depend ONLY on your negotiating skills, and how far you're willing to push it.

If you want absolutes, bring the phone back. Clearly, this is an extremely grey area.

If you're wiling to take your chances, let me repeat a post I made Sunday.

According to the Uniform Commercial Code, which governs contract law, once an agent (Cingular) makes an offer ("Do you want insurance?") which I accept ("Yes.") the contract is legally binding. You don't even need it to be in writing, but that's even better. Plus, once there is consideration (ONE c...

that is a good point except the fact that the RESELLER (cingular) is only selling the insurance, they have no obligation to provide the actual coverage...your points are valid, but the situation would have to be taken up with lock/line (asurion)...I.E. if you file an insurance claim to sue an insurance company...you surely dont sue the "agent" that sold you the insurance...lets please think logically...and for the money (500 bucks) you are really not going to get anything more than a new v3...a company like that would much rather pay your needs off, than to put up with you kicking and screaming like a little girl because you dropped your phone in water...just my opinion

I never said Cingular provides the coverage. They are acting as the agent of the insurance provider. And Lockline, or whomever, in turn, would go back to Cingular and tell them to pound salt on my claim since the rep (in my case, the store manager - and that's an important distinction, as it's a person in a "position of authority" that offered the coverage) - wasn't given the "memo."

And with that, I'm done on this subject. 🙂

Assurion is not the insurer in this case it is Lockline. Assurion actually insures high-end devices, like PDA's. But Verizon offers Assurion not Cingular. I wonder if you can call Assurion and pay for insurance seperately.

cingular has been advised v3 ARE NOT AN INSURABLE PRODUCT.....if they are billed for coverage and can verify a certain amount of use for a V3 we will as a ONE time courtesy cover it....after that it is dropped......otherwise go talk to the store rep that is just trying to make a buck.....lockline will not cover it

I agree with Buffy, Lockline WILL NOT COVER the V3
I called them after i was paying for it and they said that the rep should not have signed me up since they don't cover it, so you better call Lockline and ask because you will be paying for nothing.

I just checked out the BestBuy deal, it's way more than the other online stores but they offer insurance. It's not through lockline though - probably a good thing.

According to all Cingular literature issued on the phone, several Cingular beats, and the Cingular sales portal, Lockline insurance is NOT offered on the phone. It is too expensive for them to replace.

Sure, your local agent, or telsales rep will sell you insurance on the phone. Why? He or she makes 4X's the face value of every feature he sells. So the rep who sells you insurance is taking a risk that you may never need it, and pockets $15.96. If you do loose it, go ahead and call Lockline, they will tell you too bad. To reiterate again the PHONE IS NOT COVERED BY LOCKLINE INSURANCE THROUGH CINGULAR WIRELESS.

This should clear up the confusion.

LOL! Ah, I'm sorry, I stand corrected. Will "sellthesh1touttaphones" has decided I don't have insurance. He MUST be right, he used capital letters! 😉

What point of law are you basing your opinion on? What can you offer to refute the Uniform Commercial Code? Because, remember, opinions are like, ummm, belly buttons.

The consumer cannot be denied something they negotiated and accepted in good faith. And the courts favor consumers.

"If you do loose it, go ahead and call Lockline, they will tell you too bad."

Of COURSE they will. You'll get David Spade on the phone saying "no" 50 times, with Bob Parr's boss telling him to deny the claim, because it's more profitable that way.

Why? Because some customers will quit there, or...

So you think they'll just send you a new phone just because you can cite the UCC? I don't think so. You'll have to sue them and go to court.

"IF I need it, I won't argue. I'll just cite contract law and give them an address to send my new phone to."

what makes you think that a huge multi million dollar company would even flinch at you for citing a legal document...Companies like Cingular spends millions of dollars each year on legal aid...thousands of lawyers make up a huge "blanket" of protection...I mean if a 500 dollar phone is worth you spending the time and money on in a lawsuit, then by all means, go right ahead...they have the money to spare...But what you are forgetting is your black and white, tangible document you signed about your service...yes, your contract...which if you actually read, you would know that it states that the contract in itself makes up the whole a...

Good fing luck. You should pull your head out of your ass. Uniform Commerical code will get you nowhere. The point is Cingular nor Lockline will cover your phone. I am sorry for you that some schmuck sold you the insurance, but you quoting some law won't get you further than anyone else. Go ahead and file a claim, I would bet you a new V3, it doesn't pass, law or no.

gosh, I just got in and came to read the forum and am informed that the insurance is not offered. That sucks. What should I do? Call to cancel it? I would think they should be more informed and not offer it to customers if it's not covered. How annoying is that?

Beeberelli,

I would, unless you love giving Cingular more than you have too! Another option is waiting a little while, perhaps they will decide to cover it, if people bitch enough about it. Plus, they are selling like wildfire, and when you have several thousand people with a high end product like the V3, you should be protected, in some way.

I got my Razr thru LetsTalk.com and got it insured up to $600 for $59.95 for the year. I used to pay $4 per month on my old Verizon account so it seemed right.
