Hey everyone...I stopped in to a soon to be Cingular Corporate location on 34th st and 7th ave in mid-town Manhattan...I, much like all of you out there, have been trying to get as much info as possible, so here's my contribution...

- Motorola will be shipping the Razr V3 on or around November 18th
- The Razr V3 will be available the beginning of December
- The Razr V3 will cost from $600-$700.

Take it for what it's worth...the reps also said Cingular realizes it will be hard to sell the phone for that much and that since the merger has just taken place, deals and negotiating can happen to draw in new customers.

😕

I'm not sure about any of that. I don't think it'll be over $499.99 here in Georgia. Maybe even $449.99 at private dealerships. It is supposed to be available on Nov. 15th.

Yo Evil, You may be right, you may be wrong... In my market, the phone will be 499.99 with a 50.00 rebate on a 2yr contract. As for FULL retail, I imagine that, if anyone even sells it at full retail, that it will run 600.00-700.00. As for the other guy and his quotes, he'll be lucky to see "un" corp. stores even carrying it due to price and the fact that there is no margin on full retail.

That just doesn't make sense. I am skeptical... Cingular had it posted on their website for sale for $499. I am skeptical that they would post it on their website for $500 then raise it to $600 or more 2 weeks later. Especially considering this is NOT a smartphone or pda/cellphone.

Heck, even the $500 is hard to justify for what is simply a normal cell phone, nothing fancy, just a "pretty" phone is all...

cheers,

kega

Or maybe that was the price WITHOUT a 2-yr. contract??? That would make sense then...

cheers all,

Um, ya, it IS 500.00. Remember, on the website, you are signing a 2yr contract. you ARENT buying the phone without a contract. Thats the descrepency in EVERYONES pricing right now. Aprox retail value on this phone per learn to earn contest was 598.00. At 600.00, we had to fill out tax forms on the phone. As for suggested retail, I believe it is at 799.99 but dont hold me to that. It may just be 700.00. I know its at LEAST 700.00 suggested retail. As for it being "just a pretty phone", have you had one in your hands? If not, take out 9 credit cards out of your pocket, feel it, thats what this phone is. Like the one review states, dont go looking to own a Porsche on a Mustang budget 😉 This phone isnt for everyone. Hell, the bo...

Kega is right this phone is not for everyone and the box is impressive. I paid 800 and would have paid 1000. Ill probably buy a spare just as an in case phone. Im not looking for a million features just a great phone that is high end quality wise. This phone after 3 weeks of use is just that. Value will vary from person to person depending on their need and circumstances.

I won't dive into the debate about retail v. contract price but here's one....

I am not a phone expert but am a phone enthusiast and know a bit. I am in the packaging business and I know how much down to the dime it cost Moto to make this phone.....

The package if it's the metal menagerie that I've seen costs about $40-$50 maximum plus tooling.

The phone as just piece parts and assembly labor costs no more than $50. The tooling for this little fellow though was likely $750K-$1MM. However, when you amortize the tooling over the phones sold it's nothing. In short.... Motorola is smart as hell, crappy as hell and we are all f'ing suckers. Myself included.

My only hope is that Moto. takes some of it's insane profit from this pho...

You didn't factor in the R&D and development costs. To make a flip phone this thin must have took forever to develop.

And if you look at most phones in general, which are made of plastic, the raw materials for the V3 must be several times more expensive.

How is the reception on this phone? Also, how is the sound volume?

Kega's right, this is pretty much a really thin, metal v600 with a color exterior display. Not worth the $499.99 2yr price if ya ask me. The v551 seems like a value, but that remains to be seen in the field of use.
