ringtones

Will someone please explain exactly what kind of music can be made into a ringtone? I assume that it involves uploading a ringtone/music file into the appropriate Gallery folder in the 6256i. Would this probably require a memory card? I never had a cell phone where ringtones was even an issue..

This is what someone told me:

"Nokia 6256i dose support 24-chord polyphonic speaker with MP3 ringer support."

I thought that the 6256i does not play MP3 music.
So the question is and remains: Does anyone have a favorite site for polyphonic music/sounds?

Thank you.
Right now I have my ringtone at the Chopin melody but that is going to get old fast....... 😉 (I initially set it at ELVES...)

Yes you can use MP3's as your ring tones. If you use your memory bay you can download them free on the internet.

Yes you will need a memory card. Just download the mp3's and same them in the music folder. Then you can select your ring tones from that folder.

But...... several people here have commented that it is NOT possible to play MP3s on the 6256i bc VzW wants us to BUY their ringtones. What's the real answer?? -Lorna

If this were true, then how would VzW benefit at all? I thought that VzW fixed it so that we CANNOT use MP3s as ringtones.

Maybe they mean, we cannot use MP3 ringtones unless we buy a memory card. Is that it?

The Nokia 6255i for Alltel & MetroPCS allows for mp3s to be downloaded and assigned as ringtones. 😁 However, Verizon demanded that Nokia activate the DRM program which is loaded in the 6256i.Grrrrr. đŸ‘ŋ The DRM software allows you to ONLY listen to downloaded mp3s. Basicaly it's Verizons' way to shove their Get It Now service down your throat. To make matters worse Verizon seems to be in no hurry to give us 6256i owners ANYTHING to download. 🙄

Please clarify for me on your text above:
You say that VzW demanded that Nokia activate the DRM program which is loaded in the 6256i. But then you say that the DRM origran allows you to ONLY listen to downloaded MP3s.

Nokia's DRM(Digital Rights Management) program prevents you from assigning any mp3 tone in you music folder as a ringtone. You can download as much music as you can fit but you can only listen to it and not transfer the files. Nokia's website can explain it better.Sorry to give the bad news.

The specs on the 6256i list it as being able to play realtones as well as polyphonic ringtones but the problem is that Verizon has not given the Nokias(the 6256i&6236i)anything to download in GetItNow ringtones. 🙄

It'a all about control. VZW has it set up that all ringtone downloads must be bought thru their Get It Now store. Only the new Moto RAZR can download ringtones outside of G.I.N.

I still dont get y Verizon is the only Comp that gets few Nokias and they dont have the rest of the bells and whistles. All the other places get the good phones...It seems that Nokia sends more of the plain phones 2 Verizon. I heard a while back that Verizon and Nokia had conflict and they just sighned again recently..I dunno if its true..But it explains y they dint have any nokias till about a couple years ago.. But anyway Ringtones is my last thing ill worry about but If im gonna spend the money y not have some great tunes? Again im a bit confused though..If I do by the phone where would I get the Realtones?

Hopefully they will have ringtones available soon for this phone. The 6236i(which is the non-flip,more basic version,of the 56')is sold directly by VZW so they will offer support for these phones. It just seems VZW cares more about LG & Moto phones.

The Nokia 3589i is a great phone.Tough as nails plus nice features for an older non-camera phone. The 6236i is a SMALL non-flip version of the 6256i.Alot of the problems with the 56' hold true with the 36'.No"real" mp3 player and the DRM preventing music files to be assigned as ringtones is present. No Bluetooth in the 36'. Also there is no memory card slot so you have to make due with the built-in memory. The phone shares some very nice features with the 56' like the camera and screen quality. The one really annoying problem is the joystick controls. Also the buttons are small, smaller than 3589i. From what was just posted elsewere VZW has decieded to carry the 6256i in their corp. stores. đŸ˜ŗ That's great news so you should be able to compare th...

Glad to help.If your 3589i is working and you don't mind waiting, hold off til' you can play with them both in the store.Physicaly, beside the flip, there is a big difference in the feel of the phones and their controls.

You can assign mp3's as ringtones if you hack it with diego software...It's actually pretty easy...Also it is rumored that diego may also be able to open up amps on 6236i...but still rumored because phone is so new.

I dont care about the ringtones being MP3 but I would like 2 at least have REALTONES. Can any1 tell me if there are any types of realtones from this phone? Its really not all that important I want a phone 2 work and well..My 3589i is great and I love it even though the ringtones suck..I want it 2 be a good phone and a good type of Headset..I went through like 3 with my current phone and I said 2 myself y buy another headset if im gonna change phones? So yeah...Just let me know if theres any type of realtones..If not im sure they'll get them eventually right? otherwise I gues I can live with it..As long as its a good phone and works well..

The only other site for Ringtones for this phone is xgringers.com. You can get there from the web or from Get It Now on your phone.

I just bought this today and boy those tones are cheesy. Horribly played.

I also can't stand their select button. Much too small. If I use my thumb it hits scroll. I have to use my nail.

I might return it really soon. ☚ī¸

I am less concerned about ringtones than about what you mentioned: The tiny Select button. The next version of this phone ought to have:

a larger Select button

key pad keys that are elevated, easy to feel, and possibly rubber-coated.

There is more but right now I'll just suggest these two.

i would suggest a better quality speakerphone and a date/time on screens to be first of all right in the middle and secondly just black.they could of outlined the black letterin/numbering with white or red, like the lg vx 8100 my wife has.
i will just go with those 2 for now ... lol!

I just brought the phone three days ago and love it. It was hard for me to go to Verizon because I was with Nextel for the past four yr's and I thought sprint would get the ph. I live in California where the only place you can get the ph is at Best Buy because of the fight Vz had with nokia. I was going to choose bet the Mot I870 & Samsung A940 but decide on this ph. I have always thought Nokia made the best ph's from my past exp with them when I was with Cingular. The only problems so far with the ph is the side key volume button and the menu button sticking and having to press a couple of times. Anyone Else having that problem! I have blue tooth Jabra 250 and it works fine. One more Question, how can I change the quicks keys to wh...
