I really want to switch to Verizon from Sprint this July when my contract is up, and I would love to get this phone, but I don't want the hassle of a phone that is not supported by Verizon.

It looks like this phone is already supported by Verizon if you buy from elsewhere.

Then the question becomes: "Will this phone be offered with a service activation discount by Verizon?" There are a few rumors over the web that seem to indicate that the 6255i will be offered by Verizon some time in June, but the reliability of these types of rumors are somewhat suspect.

I spoke to a Nokia rep today - this phone should be ofered by Verizon real soon. My question is if it can be activated for Sprint even if they won't be offering it.

Sprint has to offer this phone because most of the phones they have are crap. And with the merger with Nextel in the final stages it would be a smart business move. My contacts in New York infom that Sprint may have the phone before Verizon. 😉 😁 😁

The Nokia rep I spoke to told me that it won't be offered by Sprint, so I guess I'm left with my question if the 6255i can be connected to Sprint.?!?!

The rep doesn't know what he is talking about. Call and talk to another rep and you will get a different answer. They will offer the phone and you can take that to the Bank!!!!!!!!!

By the end of June! Nokia has always made the best phones. I have Nextel right now and Motorola makes the worst phones. I am on the west coast.

Please tell me I'm wrong.. I just checked nokia's website and it seems that it does not have DUN bluetooth profile... I can't understand why phone mfrs dont make a phone with all the features, beats me. I mean the technology is out there 1+mp camera, full bluetooth, full speakerphone, voice digit dialing, 1x or EV-DO, analog... I just bought the pm325 by LG has all the features but spkr phone is missing it's just a monitor and mutes the phone, other phones will have all the features but no bluetooth.. go figure...

just had a vendor show in philly last night and spoke to the nokia reps there they had the 6255i there branded with the the vzw logos they said the expected launch is July but the phone will be out for indirect stores first... they also noted that vzw has not selected the final sw version yet and that they think the obex profile will be removed to keep in line with vzw current policies on bluetooth... and playing with the phone I took off the battery and notice a aluminum plate over top of where the sd card slot should be... I asked about it and they were like yeah vzw decided that they did not want that feature available on the phone.. overall it seems like a pretty solid phone and for people that wanted to the obex profiles will have to ...

It's an MMC card slot. If Verizon removes the ability to have one, they have just ruined the phone for you.

Well it pretty much will ruin it as an MP3 player, can't fit many tunes on 8 megs!

But it sure wouldn't ruin it for me as a phone.

Even without the MP3s, bluetooth and radio, I have been waiting for a phone like this in order to switch to Verizon. Reasonable size, very good RF, analog, good speakerphone, and good build quality. That's all I am looking for, but VZN hasn't offered that to date.

I will buy one for me and one for my wife and switch to Verizon from Sprint as soon as it is available and when my Sprint contract runs in early July. Whether it has crippled BT and no slot or not.

That being said, I think it is really lame the way Verizon goes out of its way to offer dumbed down phones.

WHAT THE HECK!!! I'm so steamed how the heck can VZW do that. I'm overjoyed that VZW will carry this but come on they are planning to offer the LG VX 8100 which has 512MB internal and up to 512 expandable, they already have the Moto v710 with expandable money, and the new Moto E815 (not sure exactly what model but I think that is right). I hate what Verizon does to their phones f*** I want features but I also want the all around quality of a NOKIA I don't like LG's or MOTO's. ERR 👿 😈 Die already VZW and maybe you can be reborn as a company that cares about the majority of customers rather than the almighty dollar!

UofDVZW:
just checking about the aluminum plate issue is it an aluminum plate instead of a swinging memory card gate or welded over or something? Does it not look like the memory card port on http://www.topram.com/6255i/?
