Should I wait for the 8000 or get the 7000? If so, why? Please respond.

It depends on what you are looking for in a phone. Compared to the VX7000, the VX8000 has speaker phone, a 1.3 megapixel camera with CCD lens, streaming video, EV-DO, has a large and vibrant inside screen, a nice exterior screen, and I like the rewind/play,pause,stop/forward buttons on the front.

According to GrandP, this phone will be available in a few weeks. Although the price could be quite high, since this is the first EV-DO handset in the United States, and has a nice set of features.

The V710 and the VX7000 are tempting, but I'm definately holding out for the VX8000. Is it possible for me to resign my contract for another 2 years in the middle of my current contract and get the phone at a lower price?

I called Verizon about a question I had, and asked that exact question. The guy on the phone was trying to sell me on a new contract, but I said I was waiting for the 710. He said, go ahead and sign, and you'll still get the lower price on the v710 when it comes out. I highly doubted him, as it was the new every two program he was talking about.

But maybe he was right. Anyone know?

You can still renew your contract to take advantage of better pricing/promotions that may be better. This will not affect your upgrade/new every two eligibility date. The contract end dates and the upgrade/new every two dates are seperate from each other. The rep was correct when he said you could sign up and still get the phone later.

Was he right when he said it would be for the same price if I had started a new contract then? I thought that there was a phone credit with a new contract.

Prices on phones tend to go down, not up, after they are released. Like I said before, if you are able to take advantage of new every two, it doesn't matter if you sign a contract now or later. New every two gives you the 2 year contract price on the phone, on top of the $100 credit towards the phone, and the eligibility date on the new every two doesn't change when you renew your contract.

There is no "credit" perse for new activations, only a lower price if you agree to the 2 year term from the beginning. There are usually mail in rebates that apply when you agree to two years, which further reduce the price of the phone, but the rebates are not always available.

You can't extend your contract more than 2 years (federal law). Signing up for another 2 year contract when you are in the middle of one would make your contract extend more than 2 years. After 22 months of service on one contract, you would be able to upgrade your phone, if you are completing a 2 year contract.

Usually when upgrading to a new technology, in this case EV-DO, you can buy the phone at promotional price.
