This afternoon VZW sent me a text message asking me to sign up for 2 free months of VCAST and the phone number I should call if I feel inclined to take this offer. Has anyone else recieved such an ad? Or is this the start of a new trend of sending advertisements to cell phone users?? 👿 😡 👿

This isn't new, actually. When signing up for VZW or renewing, the agent processing your order does have the option to suppress marketing for you. They're defaulted to on and the agent doesn't ask because... well, that's marketing. VZW isn't the first company to do it and they sure won't be the last. Fortunately, they make it very easy to get those marketing messages to stop. Just call and ask them to remove you and they'll gladly oblige. Just explain that you received a text message promo and that you don't want to receive them anymore. Oh, and for the record, those text messages are free.
