Verizon screwed me again-no roaming....
Went to casino in middle of state(Michigan) where VZW claims to have coverage there,but i found out in the past my phone would go into roam,no big deal at least i knew it worked.We went there other day for 2 days of gambling and found that now in town no service at all,no roam no nothing.Went 3 miles out of town got signal and forwarded my # to my wifes t- mobile.Got back yesterday, called VZW and they said they are making it so your phone doesnt go into roam,because of to many complaints from people about roam charges on there bill. that is why they are advertising about no roam charges on americas choice plans,the phone wont roam and when it dont roam you dont have service..One thing nice about the 8000 is for the service alert it speaks t...

Its changed now. You'll either have service or you wont. You will no longer roam.

That's really strange- I checked my call minutes log and it shows a roaming call of 42 seconds. I'm trying to figure out where I was when I supposedly went into roam.

Yes i agree all phones should be able to roam and be able to work all the time, but because of people bitching about getting roaming charges on there bill Verizon is making changes so that dont happen. I found that out this past week when i went up north(upper Michigan)to a gambling casino where my phone always went into roam but at least it worked if needed. Now the other day,no roam and no service and that sucks because my wife and i go there at least 4 times a year.

No i dont think you can force mode on it.Mine just lost signal and that was it,had to go down road 3 miles to get signal. I did call VZW when i got home and told them of problem and the lady i talked to said she made a change in system that would allow my phone to roam.

really i talked to 3 different vzw CS reps and not one of them said its possible TO CHANGE ANYTHING TO GET ROAM, but one said i can force PCS ONLY!!!

Hi if you are on an existing plan like americas choice then you will still have roaming capabilities, once you change plans or renew your contract you will get put on this no roaming plan. You are grandfathered in as long as you don't do anything. They say that they did this because so many people complained about roaming charges, now the phone will only work for 911 in the blocked out areas. Hope this helps

I have a question, when you say as long as you don't change anything you will remain on the existing plan? I just got done purchasing 2 phones for the wife and me, we were not eligible for the contract price, so, I paid full retail price for the phones and there was no contract signed or extended, just bought the phones and walked out, that does not change my plan does it? If it does, that could mean phones are going back.....Please let me know, or I might just go ahead and call CS..

Well you don't have to change your plan if you don't want to, but you don't get the deals on the phone. So it's up to what is more important....your plan or a discount on the phone. So if you bought your phones outright at full retail price then they didn't change your plan and you are still on your old plan.

You are correct to if you just buy the phones out right no changes should be made to your contract. I also found out yesterday that they can manually override the system and still keep you on the roaming plan , If you bitch enough as well as they can renew you and do it on paper contract so then you can still keep the old Americas choice where you will have the roaming capabilities. Now as Far as resign contract and not saying anything you will get switched I believe it is automatic in they system. I got the 7000, so far like it, have had no problems with it, and it is amazing, the signal seems to be better the the 4400 I had. It looks like it is a keeper so far, still have a week of testing.
