Okay here we go..

I am certainly a power user. I have owned every pohne on the Verizon Network and spent my career with AT&T in Network Design. Does that make me an Expert ? Not sure, but I know my stuff !

I bought the LG8000 and the 890 to test both.

The 890 is awesome !

The Audiovox 8940 is a disaster. The first thing you must look at in a phone is simply the Voice Quality. The D/A convertors in the Audiovox which are the little devices that convert your voice to digital and back are horrible. The voice quality on the 8940 is almost unusable. People who are used to having low quality conversation might be okay with it but if you have owned a samsung you know what good voice quality is.
Also the 8940 speakerphone is horribly lo...

The samsung did feel the best when I tried it at the store construction wise. But is the outside screen as crisp and clear as the 8000? Can you view your gallery photos, txt msgs and missed calls from the outer screen? Does the samsung have the awesome "record New" function the 8000 has? Can you assign multiple speed dials under one name in the contacts list? IS the UI as intuitive as the 8000? If it has the same user interface as the a530 and 670 it has all the problems I mentioned above. Did they change the user interface?

Oh yeah, The 8000's clear button is off to the left which makes it impossible to use. You have to move your thumb off axis which is terrible..

Oh yeah again, The antenna on the 8000 is giant. When it pulls out it looks like a cell tower antenna and it shakes back and forth when you drive.

And now for the best - The 8000's earpiece voice quality is worse than we thought. We spent 4 hours testing the Earpiece quality today on all the phones. The Samsung still has the best voice quality there is. The 8000 is near impossible to interpret what people are sayign when you driving at 60mph. The road noise is amplified some how in the earpiece and makes it really bad, The samsung is perfect!

Its funny how this guy, only promotes the Samsung a890. Check out his so-called reviews in the Review section of the LG Vx8000, Samsung a890, and the Audiovox 8940. They are all the same review, but its not really a review. They are only statements that promote the Samsung a890. "Oh yeah, The 8000's clear button is off to the left which makes it impossible to use. You have to move your thumb off axis which is terrible.." Oh come on, you insult everyone on this forum's intelligence with that one. Then you say the antenna shakes back and forth when you drive? This is so stupid. Then you top this bull off by saying the Samsung is perfect! lol, this is ridiculous. People of Phone Scoop, how long do you think that he has been working f...

Theatermax is a buffoon. The guys on Samsung's payroll. He prefaces his reviews by stating he's some kind of engineer and he tests cell phones for a living. The only thing he's tested here is his hyperbolic nonsensical spiel about how good the A890 is and how bad the LG is. The a890 is a mediocre phone at best.

LG has by far the best UI and software. To me it's not that much bigger but it has a bigger screen and the outer display has much more funcationality than I expected.

That is not to say the 890 isn't a great phone either. That's the beauty of the capitalist system. Lots of choices.

Not to start an argument but I actually had the poor earpiece quality and I happened to be on an interstate doing about 60mph. It wasn’t real bad but I could hardly hear the person on the other end even after I turned the volume up all the way. While I’m here, I’ll ask if anyone can help me with my 8000. I love the phone, it’s got a lot of great features, however, I’m having problems receiving calls in my house. I just upgraded the other day from my vx4400 and never had this problem; I live in central PA in a major town. I never had problems with my 4400.

I called Verizon and the tech told me I would need to have 3 or more bars to receive calls.
They said this is an all digital phone and that the 4400 got better signals since it was tr...

YES 1000% the 890 and all of the Samsung phones have 10-25% better reception and when in fringe areas this is even more noticable.

Samsung will make and recieve the clearest phone calls each and every day.

We have been testing phones for years. Overall the Sams just keep winning.. Yes sometimes missing some features but if making a call is more important than a speakerphone etc. Sams wins 🙂

Enjoy

Definitely not true. The 8000 connects very fast when making a call and there is no lag and the clarity is superior and sorry to say Sam sung the wrong song and lost. The 8000 got much better reviews PCMAG and also Cnet.

Theater you obviously work for Samsung and being the sales are poor on the 890 as everyone is returning them for the 8000 they sent you here to try and promote why would you be so dedicated in trying to convince that Samsung phones are the best? HAHAHAA

I'm starting to believe him, I've been looking at the 890 since some people I know rave about the A670. They say the phone is awesome and never have problems with reception. The reviews section has a lot of positive remarks too. I hope your not working for samsung and just trying to make a buck. If I get this phone, I'll be stuck with it for 2 years since I can ony trade once in 15 days. Anyway, thanks for all the input. I hope to get a good quality phone in the long run.

Theatermax is obviously a Samsung employee and is making a fast buck because he posted the same exact review in all three 8940,8000 and 890 forums. Who in their right mind would want to promote a product without getting paid?

What happened was Samsung probably received so much negative feedback being the phone did not include speaker and the return rate was very high thus hurting sales tremendously so they figured the best way to try and convince people to keep the phone is promote the phone as having excellent reception. Big deal, the 8000 has the same reception if not better. Imagine walking into a car dealer and buying a new car then driving off the lot and then realizing they did not include a CD player in the dashboard. I think Sa...

I don't see what's so hard about designing a good phone, personally. Maybe i'm a genius.

You want loud speakerphone that can be adjusted. You want nice screens. You want buttons that aren't junky, a feel of the phone that isn't too plasticky. Megapixel + camera, outside screen available, proportioned weight on both sides of the flip.

The 8000 should be a little smaller, it IS a design flaw, albeit one i can live with.

We want good reception above all.

Intuitive menus, extras like voice dialing, picture identification, easy number input, friendly and customizable wallpapers, graphics and themes.

I know it sounds like a ton to pack into a phone, and i'm sure i'm missing features that we all obviously want - and 8000 really d...

It is not proven, not stated anywhere that the Samsung phones traditionally get 10% - 25% better reception than other phones. The only place this is stated is by theatermax.

What is proven, by user reviews, is that the 8000 is a far superior phone to the 890. What is also proven is that theatermax is a samsung employee.

Your problem lies in the fact that you have an all digital phone. That said, I live in PA and frequently travel through central PA and I do not have a problem with the 8000. You may have an issue with your particular 8000 maintaining a strong signal. Try another 8000 before you jump to the 890. You will be very disappointed with the 890. I had it, and I was disappointed.

And whoever told you that you MUST have...

I disagree with this review. I looked at all three phones when they came out at a Verizon retailer. I didn't like the menus of the Samsung & Audiovox much. They were hard to navagate through. Also, I didn't like fact that the cancel/clear button was right under the down button on both phones. I kept pushing it on accident and exiting out of what I was doing. Clearly, the 8000 is the biggest phone of the three, but it is very user-friendly & has many great features. The LG 8000 is what ended up buying & am satisfied with it. Go test all three and decide for yourself.

Thanks for everyones input. Just to let everyone know, I'm now getting calls on every try, I've been calling it from my landline and it rings with 1,2, or 3 bars all the time. I don't get 4 but I assume it would ring if it did. I think I'll stay with the 8000 and hope software upgrades make it even better. Can someone tell me if software upgrades help in reception and signal strength? I gotta aggree, the phones menu is much user friendly than the 890 but the clear button never bothered me much. I had the clear button in the same location on my vx4400 and it never got in the way. What I don't like is all the web buttons around the OK button, I keep hitting the Get it Now and the other web button. I would like to disable that. So, sorry for al...
