A couple of questions

Just got my 8k yesterday and have been playing with it. LOVE THIS PHONE!!! It's really "high tech" compared to my last phone (V60). I have a couple of questions that need answering please.

1) When a friend calls me they say that instead of the standard phone "ring" they hear music. How do I change the song or get the standard ring tone? I asked VZW but the assistant thought I was talking about the caller ID personalized ringtone. I already know how to set that up. Help!!! My friends hate the music. (Muzak just isn't Metal).

2) How do I get that V Cast thing? I've gotten on the web to check out scores and stuff but not the V Cast. I saw a broadcast on the phone in the store, but the manual doesn't have instructions on how to...

I called from my buddy's phone today while I was working. Yep, it was muzak all right. I heard the feature yesterday at the store. The associate who was helping me called his co-worker (on a landline phone) and I got to hear it. He said you could change it but I forgot to ask how. I thought it would be in the owners manual.

That feature is called Ringback. There will be a feature released at some point that will let you change the sound of the ring that someone heres when they call you. There is a link to this...something like www.verizonwireless.com/gin/ringback (Not sure, but have been there and readup on it)

Where are you located? Right now I believe this was only on the west coast.

This is the weirdest thing! So like when I call someone through the phone I hear it ringing, so you are saying instead of ringing that your hear music? Anyway if this is the case I would assume that it is not on the phone where you would change it but in the menu of where you deal with your voicemail. This is just a hunch.

Ok I found it, it is on the page website where you look at get tones and stuff. Of course there is a charge for this function. $1.99 per year and .99c per month so I would look into this if you don't wnat the extra charge if you have this feature and they just put it on without asking you (This feature only in parts of CA). Verizon reps are really annoying. I first bought the 8940 and the rep got me because I was stupid, and put with it an accessory package. When I came back to return the phone for the 8000 I saw that they not only returned the price difference of the phone but also $54 for the accessories package; that original sales rep duped me.

adalan- Yep, when you call me on your phone you hear the muzak. On my end I see you on the caller id and your ringtone sounds. I live in San Diego.

shveckle- Ok, thanks I'll check out VZW's site. Is that the link you gave earlier? Yeah, the sales guy got me too. He didn't even tell me there was a charge. He just said "Oh, you get this feature too.". I thought it was pretty cool but if my friends can only listen to muzak instead of metal, forget it!!! (LOL). Plus, you get charged for it! Bag that.

Ok, here's the deal. The site for the ringback tones is http://ringbacktones.vzw.com. You can preview, listen, buy, etc. HOWEVER, on the "help" tab it doesn't tell you how you can remove this feature. You can purchase up to 20 ringback tones and assign them to different people in your contacts. BUT, they expire after a certain amount of time. Then, you have to re-purchase them or lose them. NICE!!! I didn't want this thing in the first place. Do I need to go back to the VZW store and have it removed or call VZW themseleves? 👿 👿 👿
