Finally, I acquired the LG VX-8000

First off, I thought about not posting at all, but I know many of you are as anxious as I was, so my purpose is to try and fill in some of the rumors with facts.

I don't know when the phone will be released. I do not work for LG or Verizon. I was the one who ended up purchasing the phone that was previously listed on eBay. My understanding is that auction was stopped by eBay because the seller's listing violated policy, by listing other phone brands in the title. I ended up purchasing it directly from the seller.

It arrived on Friday, but I was out of town, so I just received it this afternoon. I was not able to activate the 8000 online, so I called Verizon. They knew it was an 8000 by the ESN, but could not activate it either. ...

How easy is it to look up a contact? In the borrowed LG TM510 I am using, I have to hit Book, Phone Book, Find Name, turn off the worthless T9 text the F***S up every name I enter, then enter the name, then have it search. It takes forever to search for names.

On my old Nokia 6360, I hit the down arrow which immediately placed me into the names, then hit whatever key corresponded to the first letter in the name, and it would bring up all names beginning with that letter. Or, I could just keep the the down arrow pressed and it would scroll the names alphabetically.

This dang TM510 does not even sort names alphabetically, as far as I can tell (it's borrowed, and I haven't downloaded a manual yet).

I could find names in seconds on my 6...

She can have it back as soon as the VX8000 comes out...but she might be in her 100s by then.

I borrowed the phone just to get onto Verizon while I had a month left on AT&T. I cannot wait to get rid of it.

How many voice dial slots does it have?

How large is the call history?

Does the Caller ID show up on the internal screen if you are in a call, or only on the external screen?

Here's a wild question to ask of a phone: regardless of its performance as a toy (camera, MP3, etc) how does it perform as a phone? Good RF?

Thanks!

well, i actually do work for verizon (ga/al region) we have a problem here, one, verizon will not, and can not change the esn on a phone, i know this because its a pain shipping a dead esn back to the manufacturer, two, even if you could change the esn on a phone eroes still acquires and requires the model of the phone for its system and for customer service, and since this would mean the phone would have to be registered as an 8000, and it hasnt been released yet, activations will not activate the phone, because they cant, the reason i even read this post in the first place is because this is where we get a lot of our information on upcoming phones, because you guys come into the stores looking for a phone that you guys said would be out by...

so they didnt change the esn? by not being possible online or over the phone, which is who the store really answers to by the way... basically what im saying is, when something goes wrong with an activation in the store we call the same persons you would, sure we have our own number pretty much straight through but we still have to rely on them if something like your 'situation' would arise to resolve the issue, being that they have supervisors and such that have way more power annnd options on the system they use, we couldnt do something like change an esn or activate an 8000 w/o bein realeased even if it was for our own use w/o calling activations, all im asking is that people not be mislead on here and come into the store saying "hey dude...

I don't see anything wrong with getting information from a forum. There are many truthful things stated as well as maybe a few missinformed. Many of the peope who post on here get a lot of their information from reps like yourself that work for verizon. I have seen non verizon phones activated through eROES so why is it so hard to believe that an 8000 can be?

I don't know who Xfarise is (and neither does anyone else here probably) but I am also a VZW sales rep and his deals sound way too sketchy! The only way he will be able to benefit from any of your business is if you are just signing up on VZW or are w/in 2 mos. of the end of your contract. None of the sales will help is quota problem (if there is one) from his vacation. Don't give this person any personal info, sounds way too much like a scam! I am also fully aware that noone here knows me either but seriously...some of you sounded all to ready to give Xfarise your info. Stay Away unless you know and trust him/her!

This does sound extremely fishy. Whether you are an agent/rep or not. I hope no one gives you any info about themselves over the internet since you basically need everthing except their mothers maiden name. How are you going to prove they are who they say they are over e-mail? Maybe you should start a forum elsewhere and leave this one to the topic it was intended for.

Im a VZ rep too. I dont know what the hell you think you can pull off.
People reading this:
Full retail is never a deal...contract renewals everything is pretty much free at any corporate store...or the phone is stolen.
Vacation gives commision quota relief so it doesnt affect your commissions at all, and you know that. Not a motivation for "special deals" and this month is a blackout for vacation time anyways-not possible.
You also cannot have someone upgrade without a physical signature.
Better hope VZW doesnt catch you doing this, they will toast your ass.

xfarise, I don't doubt that you work for Verizon, however I question your credibility. I have an 8000 and it is activated on the Verizon network, the way I posted it was done. I don't know all the technical language, but then again, you don't know as much as you think you know either. I called tech support with a question, and when I gave them my phone number, the computer showed I had an 8000.

So, my advice to you is to stop doubting, just because you don't understand how something was accomplished by another store. I've had pictures posted on this forum and on HoFo.

You are the one that hijacked this thread in an attempt to sell phones (against forum policy I'm quite sure). So, stop doubting, become a believer, and enjoy life :...

You can do an esn change into just about any type of phone. I have done them to cell one phones, at&t, and midwest wireless. The system lets the esn number go through even if it dosen't recognise it. You can then manually program it with your home sid and switch it to auto-B. It a fact JACK!!! 😎 😎 😎

You can do that with some carriers. I have put a cdma alltel phone on our prepaid before. Heads up though, just becasue you can do it doesn't mean it will work right. If they leave the local area or eneter an extended network it will not work properly if at all. I would never do it on a monthly plan EVER, but prepaid is crap, so who cares. Just because you change the sid the prl's are still wrong so national coverage is hit or miss and the roaming indicator will not work correctly in extended networks or even verizon networks in different markets! we use auto A here.

It has to be possible to activate an 8000 because the phone is in "friendly testing" on activate accounts being used everyday. Not by customer's of course, by VZ employees testing the phone for bugs in the software, etc.

I guess they could restrict the ESN's to only employee test accts (which I have seen them restrict before for certain phones to match product ID's, but not to only employee accts), but that is unlikely.

By the way, the 8000 has been approved and will be out in a few wks.

A friend is testing the 8000 now (and has been for months) for VZ and said it's been approved and will be out in a few wks. I don't have a specific date, and January is a very realistic assumption. I'd guess early January. Unless they can get it to stores in time for Christmas, they'll wait until the new year for inventory and accounting reasons. Maybe before xmas though. Hope so!

But these are just my educated guesses. The way verizon runs things, when you hear a date I usually add a couple weeks or months to it before it actually gets released. Seen it happen on almost every instance when a phone is being released (almost never on time). I'm not trying to make wild accusations....to be honest I don't really care if you believe ...

Christmas is two weeks away! They better get a move on, don't you think? C'mon now, lets be a little realistic here. What incentive does Verizon even have to launch this phone before Christmas at this point?

So what you're really saying is you heard a rumor from someone with connections to VZW and you're going off of that? But in case you're wrong, add a couple weeks/months to it just for some cushion.

Lets face it -- absolutely no one on this forum has any idea when this phone is coming out. Give it a rest. You don't know. The VZW reps in your back pockets don't know. It's going to follow the same traditions of every phone released before it -- it ain't over till the fat Fed-Ex man delivers.
