Everybody calls this a "World Phone". Have any of you tried to use this phone in JAPAN?

It doesn't work there... or should I say I haven't been able to get it to work there.

I travel to Japan at least 5 times a year, I bought the V400 because it was billed as a "World Phone".

Does anybody have any idea how to get it to function in Japan?

was the phone's network on automatic? or was it on 850/1900? If it was on 850/1900 it would not have worked. It needs to be on 900/1800 or on automatic, and was the simcard international capable?

Thank you for your reply... the phone was on automatic. It searched for a network... but could not find one. I assume that the simcard is international capable, because the phone will work in Europe.

Your phone can't be used in Japan because they use I-Mode, which is a completely different network from GSM.
