Looking for a more powerful antenna for this thing. Live in Manhattan, work in Manhattan. Downtown (chelsea) where I live and everywhere else reception and call quality is AWESOME! Where I work (midtown, park avenue) on a high floor (above 40) I am lucky if the phone will even ring at my desk, let alone 'answer' a call.

Spoke with ATT about it and they reprogrammed my SIM card which has made the problem a little less annoying (the phone rings at my desk where it previously did not). But it still floats between "AT&T Wireless" and "Emergency Only" to 'No Service" throughout the day. I am inclined to think it may be the antenna as I've tried everything else.

I've been seeing these gold-plated stub things and am wondering if anyone here ...

Antennas are typically pretty optimum designs by the OEM. The only think that coould help you would be an external antenna, set in a more advantageous location.

I presume that you can attach an external antenna t it, as the manual alludes to that.

I know someone with one on a different Moto phone. It just seems to be a designer thing for flash. No difference in signal for what he says. Maybe go to Howard Forums and check. Someone there might know.

From what I can see on that link, te only thing that might be useful (haven't used it, but the theory is good) is the passive repeater antenna.

That goes in your car. It has an antenna that mounts on the glass, and passes the signal through the glass to a second antenna mounted on the inside - which re-radiates the signal. It's not as powerful as an external antenna mounted on the roof, but it's the next best thing.

As to the telescoping antennas, I'm guessing that the upper parts of that antenna aren't even hoooked up, as an antenna that is too lng would probably be less effective. The ideal antenna length for 1900 MHz is around 3 inches. At 800 - 900 MHz, around 7 inches. It's hard to say. Typically, the antennas in the phone h...
