Can the V600 become EDGE capable?

I'm thinking about joining Cingular and getting the V600. I'm not sure if the V600 is EDGE capable or can become capable of getting the new high speed service. Does anyone know? Thanks for your help.

The v600 is not EDGE and there is no way to update it to become edge.
