I got one!

This phone is all that it's cracked up to be!

For about $570, the FEDEX box came with:
V600, matching Moto Bluetooth Headset, an extra V600 metal cover (metallic green), USB cable and CDROM.

Overall, a good value for the bundle of goodies. (I was also willing to pay a little extra for it right now, as I'm leaving for Asia in a few days and absolutely had to get a new phone.)

This phone was FedExed from Hong Kong. It came with one piece of paper in Chinese, and the packaging on the headset was in Chinese, but all of the manuals are English.

The place I ordered it from:
http://www.plemix.com »

The one caveat. It didn't come with a SIM card (which may or may not be normal for a sim free model... 😛). So I used both my wife's...

I have a couple of questions have you tried m mode with youre att sims card does it work?
Or is thier the need to program the phone which ever service provider you are going to use ,,to access their on line services example
(M-Mode, T-Zones, ect.)

Another question does it have any logos ,stickers of somesort(Vodafone,)any at all?

From the moment of purchase I figure you paid with a credit card to the moment it arrived how long did it take? how much for shipping?

Would really appreciate youre help trying to get one myself

The phone is unlocked and unbranded, except for the Motorola logos.

I ordered it this week on Monday. Tuesday I got the tracking number, and the phone arrived Wednesday morning about 9:30. I paid about $20 for FedEx priority shipping.

I didn't have any internet service on my plan, so I don't know if Mmode will work without setup. From appearances, it looks like it's ready to go. Although on the Motoroal v600 support pages, it looks like there is some setup for Mmode.

My we don't trust people on the web... The only reason I posted was to let folks know that I had success!

It took a little bit of a leap of faith. I only proceeded after emailing Plemix a couple of questions.

I paid by credit card through paypal. If it would have turned out to be a fraud, I was covered, twice.

I live in Millbrae California, near San Francisco.

Just wanted to let some of you guys know that I have this phone (check my earlier posts regarding using it with Mac and Palm). I got the phone for $745 (German Vodafone) with:
US charger & Euro charger
Motorola HS810 Bluetooth Headset
All 4 faceplates sets (blue, green, silver and red)
A fully bound and printed US manual for the phone
USB cable and CD
and...a guarantee (I know, no such thing) to upgrade me to the Motorola V80 or any other phone I wanted in the future. He was honest and has kept in touch with me since then, so I trust him now. He shipped it in 3 days and accepted only PayPal or credit card. He shipped via FedEx and provided a transactio number PRIOR to ship. All in all, an excellent experience...this was approx. 1 ...

So this morning I went to ATTWS.com to find out how to configure my v600 for mMode. It took me a bout half an hour to find the right page, but mMode is now working.

I haven't downloaded any rigntones yet because I don't have a wallet or card yet...

To update you all on what I've learned:

1) The phone is NOT buggy, I haven't had any problems yet.
2) The phone that I got from Asia is pre-populated with some text message samples in Chinese. I overwrote the Orange configuration to set up mMode. It seems there is only one free browser setting, and the pre-configured networks are not removable, but editable.
3) I was wondering why they sent me two manuals with the same exact cover. Inside one is English, and the other is Chinese.

Yesterday I bought a V400 from Cingular for my girlfriend (both of us are AT&T customers) and I fell in love with the phone. It seems to be a solid phone and I really miss my Motorola phone to be honest with you... I really like they way they work (when they work). It really gave me the bug for this phone again.

A couple of questions for you guys that have them... especially through that plemix site. One... is the phone REALLY worth $585 shipped? I mean, I know we all want the phone and all, but is it REALLY worth twice the price of the V400 (honestly)?
Secondly, What ARE the bugs? On an AT&T network... especially in this area (Metro Detroit area) if anyone is from here... how does the phone work? Are there any service issues, is t...

I have not found any bugs.

The only issue that I have had was the bluetooth headset (jabra) not being picked up. It had been working. I restarted the phone, and it is working again.

I may have done something wrong as I had just sent a friend with a T616 a contact via bluetooth.

By the way, for those of you who've been watching, I figured out what the Chinese text was... they were pre-written text messages like "I'll be there at *** o'clock." or "Don't leave without me." They were also there in english, so I didn't have to re-add them.

Everyone that I have shown this phone too at work has two comments. One they love it, and two they think I'm crazy for paying almost 600 for it...

I think it's a bit steep, but worth it. ...

😁 congratulations on your new phone.

i have a quickie question. people report that there are bugs in the sw on this phone. with buying it stand-alone like this, how can you upgrade the software on the phone? if you go with AT&T as your provider, say they push down a software update (would they even for a non-ATT phone) would it possibly lock the phone or install other things you didn't want (hence the reason for buying it unbranded).

i'd consider this route if it's possible to get upgrades (even if i have to download them myself over the web) and not get locked by AT&T or some other provider.

So far I haven't found any bugs. It doesn't mean they're not there...

PCTools for the v600 comes with a data cable. I have had to update the firmware on my phone in the past, and it's not that difficult. (And that was not on an early version of a phone.)

Your other questions are good, guessing I would say that ATT cannnot randomly update your phone and lock it.

GetOne - couple questions if you don't mind:

1. How did it work with the cingular sim card? 2. Did it come with A US charger?
3. Was the sim card part plug n play to just get it up and making calls?
4. Have you found the mic hole on the headset to move too close to your face and distort your outgoing sound for the other caller?

Thanks

I went to the plemix.com website, how did you get your package of a V600, Motorola bluetooth headset (was it a HS810???), extra metal cover, and usb cable with Fedex shipping for $570?

Right now I see $575 (without shipping) for a V600 and a bluetooth headset (which does not specify which one). Can you give me some more insight?

From plemix.com, for US$595 total ($575+$20 priority shipping), I got:

1. An unbranded, unlocked, SIM-free v600, with silvery covers, and 0B.09.1CR firmware; everything seems to be working great so far!
2. two manuals, 1 in English, 1 Chinese(?)
3. a "phone strap & screen wiping stick" used to wipe grease off the surfaces (but it can't attach anywhere on the v600, so it's pretty much useless)
4. battery
5. charger cable with U.S. adapter

6. Mobile Phone Tools v2.0 (with software & a USB data cable) to sync with the phone - only works with Windows 98+ not Macintoshes! ☚ī¸ ($35)

Cassie21 -

So the phone came with more than actually stated on the website?

The website lists 5 items:
The manual, v600, headset, lithium battery, and rapid charger. It seems you got an extra cover, and Mobile Phone Tools v2.0 with usb data cable. Is this correct?

With the MPT II software and the cable, I can control the phone from the computer (dial people, edit the phone's datebook, send email through the phone, use the phone as a modem, copy pictures & songs from/to the phone & computer. I can download pictures I take with the camera with the software & cable. I can download ringtones on my computer then put it on the phone through the software & cable.

Cassie, thanks so much for all the helpful insight and advice... I received my V600 unit from Plemix on Wednesday. I live in NY and ported my wireline 212 area code number to ATT Wireless also on Wednesday; they said that would take 3-5 business days to complete. So in the meantime I got the Samsung X426 to use as a backup and to get the SIM card. When I put the SIM card in the v600 sometimes I get service, sometimes it just says 'emergency calls only', but I realize this may be due to the fact that my port is incomplete. My question is, and I have searched high and low for it, where did you discover the firmware version, how did you get to it, and how can I update it? Specs:

old 800 (not cool looking, doesn't match the vXXX phones, right ear only?):
Weight: 28 grams
Talk Time: 4 hours
Stand-by Time: 70 hours

801 (matches the style of the vXXX phones):
Weight: 23 grams
Talk Time: 4 hours
Stand-by Time: 90 hours

810 (just slightly different design vs. 801):
Weight: 20 grams
Talk Time: "up to" 5 hours
Stand-by Time: 100 hours

Both the 801 and 810 looks similar. the 810 seems to have better specs ... plemix.com gave me the HS801 (the middle one) with my package, but I'm happy with it!

One of your replies listed a wap address for moto downloads of wallpapers and ringtones for free? Let me know when you have a chance.

Thanks from a fellow Chicagoan w/ a V600..

Are you Chicagoans using the V600 on the AT&T network? How has your reception been so far? What area are you in?

Got TMobile and no problem. Then again never really had a reception problem with TMobile.... 🙂

From my review here:
"Very clear connections even when there's only 1 signal bar (using AT&T in Chicago) 🙂" - downtown and near south

you could also go there on your computer browser and download to your computer and copy it to your phone (save on your download time!) 🙂

by the way...plemix has an option to buy just the phone for $515. I emailed them, and they said they will NOT be sending you the extra cover and mobile phone tools (cd & usb cable) if you get this package. In my mind, it seems like a much better deal to get the $575 option because of the MPT & cover & bluetooth headset. You can also specify a blue or green cover...otherwise it's randon selection.
