Does it just need an update?

I'm loving this phone, but I'm really not impressed with the way it really lags. I'm not saying it should be fast like the iPhone, but certainly, a bit quicker would be nice.

Anyway, I was thinking of getting this phone and I was wondering if all this lag and bugs the OS has, are they software or hardware based?

What I mean is, Would some software updates and better code streamlining allow the phone to responde better or is it limited because the CPU and other components can't handle it?

I can deal with some sluggishness, thats not a problem, as I have the Moto Q9c (Sprint), but it looks like the Storm's OS is still in beta lol.

The "lag" is primarily software based. The software version the Storm was shipping with which was 4.7.0.65 is a large part of the problem.

Most Storms are now shipping with updated software 4.7.0.75 which significantly reduces but doesn't eliminate the lag along with some camera and accelerometer issues. There will be even more updates coming to this OS soon.

The CPU is 528 MHz which is pretty good. Its on par with a lot of newer touch screen devices. If you compare it to a Bold though, the Bold has a faster processor.

Thanks for the reply and info.
It is great to hear that its more of a software issue, which I'm sure RIM will continue to improve on.

I just didn't want to end up getting a new phone with its limitations already showing.

The Q that I currently have is decent, but is slow sometimes, although I'm sure memory plays a big part.

You are so right! I tested it out this morning at a Verizon store, and it was pretty snappy.

I forgot to check/ask what version it was running. Considering its a show model, I'd have to assume it would be the latest version.
Besides, compared to some of the vids I've seen online, there was a significant improvement.
