Google Maps and the VZW 8330

I downloaded Google Maps and installed it. The location was way off from my position, so I did *228 and option 2 to reset my roaming towers, and it was still way off.

I never had this issue with my old 8310 when I was on AT&T, the location finder was right on.

Any ideas?

THis a lame fix but I noticed that if you open vz nav and get a map of your location, then hit the red end button and open up google maps or live search your gps is fully functional. This doesn't take away from the fact that you have to pay for vz nav though. I just do it cause I like live search better

As a result, the 8330's GPS functionality has...

Google maps triangulates based off of your cell phone signal, give or take 5000 meters (the program even tells you "your location within 5000 meters"

It has to triangulate because it doesn't have access to the gps unit in the phone. Only vzw's proprietary products do.

There's your explanation. You may not like it, but there it is.
