Does anyone know how my phone knows it's in the belt clip and if you can't turn that function off. Ask if you need more details.

The phone will always know if it's in a holster because there is a sensor in the phone. You can't disable that, but you can control how the phone notifies you when it's in a holster. Go to Profiles, Advanced, select a profile you want to use then hit the Menu key. Scroll down to phone or browser or messages and click the track ball. You can then change what the phone does in and out of the holster.

i'd just like to be able to make a call with it in the holster... sounds stupid but i don't always have the belt clip on my belt, it looks kinda fairy if you're out and about so i keep it in my pocket
