Bruce you seem to know quite a bit about phone. I didnt know until yesterday reading about the front screen qwerty key pad, was always wondering why phone didnt do that like the I phone. I tried in logging into my aol email and got it to work by tapping on the text on screen, then I tried again and again but couldnt make it work. What is the secret for bringing up qwerty and using it,mabe I read something wrong about how to do it? Looking for your advice or from the rest of you that might know the tricks. Thanks for any help. Bob

Applications have to be programmed to use the qwerty keyboard. That includes the webbrowser and VZNavigator. If you access an application that is in landscape mode, you might get access to it. If the app is in portrait mode, you will get the keypad on the front screen. If you got aol email once on the front with the qwerty keyboard, perhaps you accessed it via the web browser.

I think what the OP is getting at is that it is not consistent and was hoping you could give us a way to make it consistent. I, personally, have had difficulty with this all of the time and all within the web browser. Sometimes, actually very rarely, I double tap a field in the web browser to open it up for me to type in, and it actually brings up the keyboard. 9 times out of 10, I can tap the field 1,000 times in the web browser and nothing comes up so I end up having to open the phone and use the qwerty and then close it to use the touchscreen. Is there any way to make sure that the touch qwerty comes up consistently?

These are two different issues. The first issue, is the qwerty keyboard accessible, is a matter of programming. Nothing you can do will bring up the qwerty keyboard if the application is not programmed for it.

The second issue, tapping it and not getting a response when there should be one, is something I've noticed with the browser. It is usually resolved for me by hitting the magnifier and making the elements larger. I just wish I could get the magnification setting to stick. Now, I just hit it first thing to make the fonts and boxes larger before I begin to surf.

Is there a quick way to hit the magnifier? Or do I have to go into thebrowser menu every time I want to zoom in and out?

the magnifier is a browser application option, not a phone option, so yes, you need to go to the browser to activate it. There are other application features for photos and movies to make the full screen or zoom in. These are functions of the applications, not the phone.

I am speaking only of the browser. Do I have to go into the zoom option in the browser menu to magnify the webpage, or is there a quick zoom option like there is on the iphone?

Zoom is application specific. There is no general zoom option that works on the phone outside of an application.

You seriously don't know how to read, do you???

I SAID 3 TIMES I WAS SPEAKING OF THE WEB BROWSER ZOOM ONLY!!!! That would be application specific zoom I am referring to, wouldn't it??? But, no thanks to you, I found the shortcut on my own. Thanks for nothing.

To the best of my knowledge, you can't bring it up when sending a text message. It may be possible with AOL if you access it using the browser.

Yes, it works in the browser because the browser is programmed to display it. It won't appear in messaging -- this app is in portrait mode and the numeric keypad will appear on the front screen.
