I can go to verizon on wed. or whenever and buy the phone retail and have it put on my account without switching to the new premium plan right?

Nobody has a definitive answer so just hold tight. You would not need a premium plan, but the rumors are that you need to be on a nation wide plan. I have talked to 5 different reps and they all said that a nationwide plan is a must, but others have heard different. When it comes out and you go to buy it you will know for sure.

(another rep overheard us talking). so like drakes said. nobody knows for sure and everybody is hearing different answers. we will know for sure in 3 days

You do not need premium, but you will need to switch to a new nationwide plan. Good thing is no contract extension to change plans anymore. Also vcast is highly suggested if you are going to be doing ANY web browsing.

you only need to be on a Nationwide calling plan because of the way the plans charge for data. Vogayer = Nationwide. Vcast is a must since the phone has a full browser, it will eat MB easily. You are better off with the Mobile Tv select package that combines Vcast and Mobile tv service since the phone is capable of both.
Premium is only if you want Vcast, VZ navigator and mobile email unlimited.
Also as a side note, not alot of stores will have plenty of these phones on stock

Well I think that that is quite possibly the worst marketing strategy for the supposed "iphone competitor" they could have possibly imagined. I'm a 20 year old marketing major and I sold phone service (indirect) for ntelos, cingular (at&t), sprint, and nextel for 15 months. I perfectly understand the data needs of the phone but not everyone will use the html browser. I recently had reconstructive surgery on my dominant hand from a baseball injury and won't really be able to use it much for the next year and was really looking forward to utiizing the touch screen and qwerty texting capabilities of this phone. In the end this is VZW's cheap, greedy ploy to force people to give up their cheaper older plans if they wish to keep their phones curr...
