Can you change missed call alerts and other misc. sounds?

I just got my K1m yesterday 🙂 and I'm having a bit of trouble with getting the sounds the way I like. The most annoying is the missed call alert.

So my phone rings, the caller decides to end the call before I pick it up, and then there is this nasty loud beep. Can I change it or at least make it quieter!?! 😡

I'm rather surprised that it's not very easy to change many of the sounds. Is it just me or is this a problem for others as well? I went through the entire manual and it didn't tell me anything more than I could have figured out from the menus alone (worthless).

Just go to:
MENU>SETTINGS & TOOLS>4. SOUND SETTINGS>3. ALERT SOUNDS>3. VOICEMAIL MESSAGES>1. TONE

...and choose the sound you want.

You can also choose to turn "Vibrate On" on the previous menu, this will play your tone AND vibrate at the same time (when the phone is on silent/vibrate it will vibrate w/o the tone as usual).

That will change the alert for voicemail, but I'm talking about the missed call alert, when someone doesn't leave voicemail.

Like when you are picking up your phone while it is ringing and the caller hangs up before you can answer.

To test this, simply call your cell from a land line, listen to the ring on your cell, then hang up the land line. You krzr then makes a loud ringing noise.

no you cant. and you must hit a button and acknowledge the missed call or it will continue to remind you every 5 minutes. motorola told this to verizon.

What do you mean Motorola told Verizon this? Do you mean Motorola warned Verizon about this problem with the Verizon UI, and Verizon refused to deal with it? Or Motorola told Verizon that it is an inherent limitation built in to the phone, and there is no way to build software around it?

I will not buy this phone as long as you can not silence the missed call beep. That is an unacceptable limitation to me, and an extremely poor design. If a new software version comes out that fixes the problem, I will consider getting the phone. Otherwise I am waiting for the LG VX-8600.

Will it stop beeping if you hit an outside button, like one of the volume rocker buttons, or do you have to open the phone?

I called verizon tech support and they called motorola and motorola said that the missed call beep will always be there.

If you hit a side volume button it goes away and also when you open your phone to see missed calls.

no way around it as of now.

For owners - does this missed call beep issue bother you, or is it not a big problem? I think it's a bad enough issue to keep me from getting the phone, but maybe I'm over-reacting.

I am returning the phone because of this. It drives my co-workers nuts to hear my phone ring a single ring (the missed call alert) every 5 minutes when I am out of my office (and have left my phone on the charger). Have not had too many problems with the phone other than this issue. I'll stick with my old E815 until a better phone comes out that does not force this feature on me.

it doesnt bother me because i always have my phone on me and i hit the side button when i get a call i cant answer.

Its more annoying because you just cant do it. it is one of the basic features of every phone but this phone doesnt give you the option to get rid of it.
