Dead Calls

Has anyone experienced this intermittant but somewhat frequent problem? At some point, a call is made from the Motorola A840, it rings at its destination, but when answered, the call is dead at both ends. The ring is not heard on the originating phone. This problem persists, until the phone is reset by turning it off and on. Verizon has replaced the original phone after trying various network and programming fixes, but the problem persists. This has been experienced in GSM as well as CDMA mode. I'm at a loss as to what to do next, and would be interested as to whether anyone has any insight into this problem.

Contact list

I just got this phone yesterday and want to know if multiple phone numbers for one person can be bundled together, i.e. a cell number, a home number and a work number. Currently they are all shown as separate phone book entries. Can this be done?

RE: Review - "Shame on you Motorola"

I chuckled a bit when I read this.

The phone sounded good until I heard there's no bluetooth. I understand VZW doesn't allow file transfers on Blouetooth, which may make the technology seem useless to anyone from other countries or used to GSM, but I rely on it for my headset.

There's a strike on my upgrade to my next phone. Other than that, it still seems like a good phone, the other features I don't use too often.

Now to answer one question:
"why is the cdma chip digital only?"

Last time I checked, VZW only offers all digital phones. I have yet to see a new Tri-mode phone in their stores, but who needs it when the network is so good without their old analog towers? Side's aren't they converting those towers to digital?

A840 OR A790 by Sampson question

1. Does the A840 have dual color display , internal and external?

2. Can you change the background setting on the outside display on the phone?
(Can you change the M on the outside display when you close the phone?)

3. Does any one know the difference in main difference in the phone's ?

Other than the A790 does not have speaker and A840 does have a speaker. What else?

4. What's the quality of the pictures you take with the phone?

5. Has anyone had a chance to play with the A790 and what did you think about this compared to A840?

Thanks
Kitty

I've had mine and the phone keeps frying out on me!

I don't know what the deal is with charging batteries and this phone or if its the adapter or what but this phone is bound to fry out when charging. I am on my third one right now going on my fourth just by chance Verizon called and said they are sending a new one out. What happens to me is when charging the battery meter freezes up and the battery gets red hot the plastic back door gets so hot you can actually ply the plastic into a different position and than the metal inside is steaming hot as well. Than i go to turn on the phone and it says invalid time/date reset and it gives me a option of yes or no but there is no problem with the time or date on the phone. The phone itself when working properly is a great phone great reception gr...

Motorola A840 opinions wanted

Hi,

I have a Motorola V710 that I bought when they first came out. I am planning on turning it in to Verizon under the lawsuit settlement. I would like to replace it with either a Motorola E815 or A840. I really don't need bluetooth and I do travel to Europe so I would like to get the A840. It appears that the E815 is a good phone but I have seen very little feedback regarding the A840. I would appreciate any user feedback on the A840 and any opinions on the E815 vs the A840 - I am aware of the difference in features - I would like to know about quality, reception, reliability etc.

Thanks,
Dave C.

Is it possible to browse HTTPS web pages

Hi, is it possible to access HTTPS web pages with the A840 and does it support cookies?

I need to check email trough Outlook Web Access.. I don't think this phone let you connect to IMAPS (secure imap). My company uses Microsoft Exchange server, and we have a the microsoft outlook web access interface to use when we are travelling.

International compatibility?

Has anyone used this phone in the UK or anywhere overseas for that matter?

Do you think it is possible to unlock the A840 for it to accept a sim card purchased in the UK?

It would be convenient to be able to travel with just one phone until gsm coverage improves in my area.

The E815 is almost the same

These phones are nearly the same, with the exception that the E815 can work with v-cast and has a larger phone book. The E815 is out and now Verizon has two very simular phones priced around the same? Are the 2 phone in different markets? The E815 is $150 with a 2 year agreement and it has a $50 mail in rebate. Why not go with the better phone?

Will any SIM work?

Is the Verizon a840 unlocked? If not is there a way to unlock it so other (non-USA) SIMs can be used overseas?

A840 Transflash memory to Phone Memory Question

So I just got my new A840 however it seems I cannot move anything from my transflash card onto the phone memory, specifically mp3's to set as a ringer! Some people have said the newer firmware installed on this phone stopped the user from being able to do this. Has anyone found a way around this? I appreciate any comments or help. 😎

I got mine!!

I received my A840 yesterday and the build quality is much sturdier feeling than my V710. The screen bumpers are higher and the screen is actually recessed about .02 deeper than my v710 was. It comes with a sim card that activates when you activate the phone. So this means that I no longer need my vodaphone sim that I had before I got this phone as with the sim that comes with the A840 you literally take ONE number every where. That is way cool. I was surprised that the phone does not have video but I almost never used that anyway and as people have stated it does not have blue tooth. The software version is 8800_01.30.11_01. Also the transflash lets you do everything except for moving ring tones to the phone. You can move you photos to it o...

A840 Charging Problems?

I was wondering if anyone else is having charging problems with the A840. I'm on my second A840 because of them. My first A840 got real hot and froze up while charging. Now this second one the first standard battery charged fine but when i went to charge the extended battery the phone got real hot and the phone said charge complete and was at 3 bars than i turn around and its at 2 bars charging. And than i unplugged the charging connector from the charging port and it froze up at unable to charge and now when i start up my phone it says reset date and time even though the date and time is correct! If anyone else has ran into these problems or know of anyone else who has let me know! Thanks!
