Samsung SCH-A650 vs. Audiovox CDM-8600: which better?

I am hoping someone here has tried both phones and can share their experiences. I currently have the Audiovox CDM-8600, which I just got 4 days ago, and it is my first cellular phone so I have nothing to compare it with. Like the Samsung, it is tri-mode, something I REALLY need.

Which phone is better able to pull in a weak signal? I live part of the year in a rural, fringe, analog area less than 1/8 mile from a no-service (for any company) zone. My primary concern when selecting a cell phone is it's ability to receive a signal. Voice quality is next. Bells and whistles are minor concerns to the above. I don't care how much a cell phone costs as long as it enable me to make and receive calls.

I have asked Verizon which of their tri-mode...

Hands Free???? NOT.

đŸ˜ĸ To make a call what do you do..?
Open the phone with your HAND.
To hang up, what do you do..?
You press the cancel button with your hand.

Does anyone at Audiovox know this?

How to fix annoying Verizon blinker: CDM8600

Menu > Settings > System > NAM Set > Auto NAM > Set to yes (6-4-3-1-yes).

This works only as long as your phone is on, once you power off then on again, the setting is lost. Setting this to "Auto NAM" should not have any side effects.

For those who don't know what NAM is:

Number Assignment Module. The NAM is the electronic memory in the wireless phone that stores the telephone number and an electronic serial number.

Storing more than one voice tag for same person?

Just renewed my contract with Verizon Wireless and am having a tough time with this Audiovox. I saw this message posted elsewhere with no responses, so hopefully putting this out there again will elicit a response because it's really frustrating.

I have "Wife" listed as a contact. I have two numbers for her, one for her work and one for her cell. I want to have a different voice tag associated with each (i.e. flip the phone open and have the option to say "Wife - Home" or "Wife - Cell"). [By the way I saw people mentioned holding down the send key to activate VR, but you can change that to be activated by flipping open the phone, email me for more details]. It seems to take each voice tag as I enter it, but then only remembers the ...

How do you make a call using the voice dial feature??

I just purchased the 8600 and can't figure how to use the voice dial feature. On another phone I had all you had to do was push the Cancel button and it would ask you for the name to dial.

Any and all help would be great!!!

Thanks

Cheap batteries

I just came across this place that sells replacement batteries at a significant discount. I haven't bought anything there yet but- $15 for the standard 900 mah battery and $20 for a 1400 mah extended life, that's pretty good!

Auto answer for CDM-8600

Hi all,

Can somebody who already has a CDM-8600 confirm as to how the auto-answer works. The feature must be on but i've read on the manuals that if the ringer is set to silent or vibrate, it's not going to work and i've seen also that for the auto answer to work, the phone must be open. No mention as to whether if you have a car kit plug in, the auto answer feature is on.
Thanks

Searching Capability

Is everyone as disappointed in the phone book searching as I am. I expect that when you try to 'find' a name, it would search on the first letters of all entries, not any name that contains those letters. For example, I want to search for Smith, Fred in the phone book. I type in
'SM'
thinking I'll list all of the entries that start with 'SM' Well, it lists all the entries that have 'SM' within the name.
Who thought up of that?

Voice Dialing

How in the world do you store more then one voice dialing option per person stored in your phonebook? I am only able to store one voice dial option per person. What if I want to save one as Joe's Cell, and one as Joe's home? Then what? Please let me know.

PRL 50110 Bug - May want to wait before buying

I wrote a glowing review previously and still think it is a great phone, but there is an annoying software glitch potential buyer should be aware of.

As of PRL 50110, the front LCD flashes the word "Verizon" and the clock dissapears. "Verizon" will show for a few seconds, then pop off, then pop back on again. This is annoying if you rely on your front LCD to show you the time/date because you may have to sit and wait for the word "Verizon" to go away.

Hopefully this is something that will be correctable via software update.
