Considering the Treo 680

I received an offer in the mail to get this phone for $75.00. 😳 I went to the store and tried it out. It seems pretty nice. I do not want to pay an extra $40.00 per month for PDA connect, but if I do I wonder if speed (non HSDPA) will become an issue. Also, has the battery issue been fixed? Therefore, I am trying to decide if I hate my Mpx220 enough to use my upgrade on this phone or if I should wait for a couple of months to see what else will be available. Someone suggested get the phone, keep pda connect for a while and drop pda connect if I don't like it. The Treo 750 is supposed to be out soon, but will probably cost a grip. What do you current Treo 680 owners think?

680 problems (if any)??

Im about to order an unlocked 680 from PALM and I wanna hear if anyone has encountered bugs/problems if any, like there are on the 650? Any freezes, reboots, etc? I know that some 3rd party apps mess up the 650, like TCMP.

Other questions:

Is the broswer faster?
Are the datebook features improved?
Did Palm put in any file managers? Its SO needed.....................

Conditioning Battery

I have heard of conditioning the battery but not sure if it makes sense for the first 2 charges to completely not use it and let it go dead while turned on. So when I first get the phone, turn it on, let it die, recharge it, and repeat?

Does anyone know what would be the ideal way to condition the battery.

This is a question from one of the reviews that was posted:

Perfect Smartphone!!! Both looks and over-all performance!!!

For those worried about the battery life - I think one of the most important things to do is properly condition the battery before use (or even after use, as in my case) ie. FULLY discharge and recharge at least twice (without using it in between). My phone perf...

Java Script for 680?

I just got my phone about a week ago and I love it, but I cannot go onto the hotmail.com website or set it as my email account. Is this a common problem with anyone else.

Treo 680 Nightmare

I'm new to Cingular and I recently purchased a Treo 680. Everything went fine for the first 3 days. After this, my nightmare began. The phone constantly lost contact with Cingular, losing all of my bars with strange symbols appearing across the top. I had to factory reset this phone at least 4 times per day in order to reacquire a signal. I have done this everyday since last Monday. I lost ALL of my data and programs, by the way. I use this phone for business and lost a ton of client information due to the factory resets (which never happen immediately after I hotsync, of course).

I tried to exchange the phone for the 8525. Every Cingular store I called had one in stock, until I went there and told them my issue. Then, in a matter...

Palm Says the Second Batch of Batteries Fixes the Problem

I called Palm today and they told me that the first set of batteries was having problems and they have rectified the situation. Can anyone confirm this with a newer Treo 680?

Thanks.

questions about some features

I've been debating on whether or not to save up the money for the phone (I don't have Cingular and therefore have to buy it full price unlocked) and had 2 questions about it.

1. What formats of video can it playback? (like video put on an SD card)

2. Is there any size limit to the SD cards?

I think I like the ....

Dash but not sure yet. so used to the BB OS.

How are the Palms compared to those two, especially the Dash.

I think I can only afford the 680 and that is the only one you can get unlocked (at least for under $500 right)

I found my friends 650 confusing compared to the BB. Will I find the same of the 680

It really looks kewl in colors tho.

Any suggestions on that, or even a fun, neat other one. I know I hear a lot about Nokias smarphones overseas, people raving.

I want to get one that has

1. edge
2. cam and vid and voice notes
3. Does not have what some people say is a confusing UI of windows mobile. (or is any OS gonna have a few people that think it is cumbersome)
4. a good volume strip 🙂 Unlike the dash
5. ...

SMS to contact group?

Is there a way to send one SMS (Text message) to a caller group? The only phone I've been able to do this on was the Nokia 9300 communicator. Beyond that, the Nokia was a terrible phone, but I digress...

I'm trying to see if the 680 is already capable of doing a group text message or any 3rd party app is available. Thank you.

Help: I just scratched the getting started CD

I accidentally scratched the installation CD last night, and the CD can't be read anymore. Is there anywhere I can download the Palm Desktop and HotSync Manager software.

I checked the palm website, and they won't have download version for Tero 680. Therefore, I called the customer service, but they said a fee of $19.99 would apply.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do ... Thanks !!!

Blackberry Connect?

I wonder, does the Blackberry Connect client work on the 680 like it did the 650? I know it's not listed but I have the BBConnect file and wonder if it can be used? I really need push mail but am not thrilled with the BB devices.

Please let me know and thanks in advance for your help.
