For a job to cut your hours because you applied at another job? Just had this happen to me.

If you live in a state where they can hire/fire at will, as long as you don't have a contract.
Perhaps the advice is too late, but I'd avoid telling an employer about a job hunt unless a new job was secure or I was reasonably confident of getting a raise.

I had that happen to me one time.
I mentioned that eventually i would be moving back to my home state. I had been looking for apartments and jobs in a different state and they started cutting my hours and eventually let me go because "I was looking for another job." I would have given an appropriate notice and never had the intention of screwing the company over.
