I've had people ask for the large phone, I guess they think that's what LG means. I really wish they had come up with something that made sense when they decided to name their company.

Given the merger of the companies involved, it did make sense in that aspect.

Though customer's can't comprehend that a company can be named with just letters and not actual words.

Lucky Goldstar was just a tiny part of that merger, it didn't make sense that they kept the LG and then dumped the part of the company that gave them the name. Most people don't know the history and therefore don't understand how a company can be named letters that no longer mean anything.

It's not so much that they don't understand. They just don't give a rat's ass. The common person isn't going to spend their time researching a damn thing. They're going to listen to was their brother-in-law's cat sitter told him.

I think it stands for nothing now, at least that's what our LG rep always says. It's something about them being formed from two companies who originally used an amalgam of their individual names but recently dropped the names to just be LG.

LG Electronics is an affiliate of the South Korean LG Group which produces electronic products. The previous company name was Lucky-Goldstar. Before the corporate name change, many electronic products were sold under the brand name Goldstar, while some other household products (not available outside South Korea) were sold under the brand name of Lucky. The Goldstar brand is still available but is a lower quality brand than the "LG" brand. LG is now one of the leading producers of electronics in the world. Their advertisements encourage people to assume that LG stands for "Life's Good", but this is a backronym. LG, a pioneering developer that facilitated commercialization of iris recognition technology in 1999, is the current world leader in ...

in my kiosk I have a display case right next to the new phones with body glove fitted cases on the top shelf. I get people all the time who stare at the cases and think they are phones.

One time I actually had a customer get upset because they were having a hard time seeing the phones through the cases. When actually they were looking at the cardboard phone inserts in the case package.
