in-store phone exchange question

nicholas88

I just bought the T629, but want to return it for the T519. I'm not happy wit the execution of the T629. This would fall within the 14 day timeframe. Well, wouldn't you know it, dropped it last night and it now has a couple of scratches. Is this can affect my ability to exchange the phone. I called 611 and they said that the phone had to be in the same condition in which they sold it to me. Do I stand a chance?

Go into the store where you purchased it and try to return it. Most of the time reps don't even check out phones like they should. I doubt a few scratches will affect their decision to return it. It certainly is worth a try. However, since you made the mistake in calling 611 they may have notated it in your account not to return this phone. It is still worth trying.

BTW what didn't you like about the T629?

I was able to exchange it for the t519. Removed my sim card prior to walking in, so they didn't even look at the T629.

For me the T629 didn't feel like a good value. I guess I expect more for $149.00 after rebate. The screen was really nice, but if you applied any pressure either to the top ofr the side it would 'wrinkle'. This coulsd be a proble down the road. Also, couldn't find a real convient way to slide it open. The thumb grip wasn't sufficent for me, I kept touching the screen. Wish it had some kind of knob on the side.

Didn't like the screen being on will it was charging, but from what I understand this is a samsung regular. Haven't charged the T519 yet, but I'm expecting it to be lit. Also, when closed and the scree...

Glad you were able to exchange it. After you use the T519 let me know what your impressions of it are. I was thinking of buying that phone also. I have the pearl & love it but would like another phone to use now and then. Hope the display doesn't stay on when you charge it; I agree with you that is very annoying.

Actually I found with the predecessor, the T809, if you hold the up or down on the volume with the slide closed after ~2-4 seconds a white screen with the time and date will pop as well as the signal strength. I'm guessing the T629 will be able to do that as well.

Also, uncerstand the issue with opening up the slider, I hit my thumb on the multi-function pad all the time.

I was wondering how to get that white screen with the time! I had seen it a few times on my t809 but had no idea how I got it to show that :-)
Yay for learning something about (one of) my phone(s) :-D

I frequently turn on the camera when opening my t809 also :-/

Glad I can help. I'm not a phone expert but it's something I stumbled on. Actually I had a motorolla. I found to change the profile that's what I needed to do or increase/decrease the volume of the ring tone. I tried with this one and voila, got the white screen with the time/date 😎

I turn on the voice notes all the time. 🙄

Actually, I couldn't get the screen to turn on without sliding it open. I know that they downgraded some of the features from the D809, I guess this was one of them.

The t519 is great. It's so slim, nicely constructed, well designed, good call quality. The screen does stay on while charging. No voice dail is a bummer, but it wasn't worth $50. Used it on the T629 only to try it out. It was cumbersome, but could be usefull. All in all, the T519 is perfect for me.

Although when I call my wife on her T619, her phone rings twice then goes right to voicemail. Same when i call my mom. I think this was a rare occurence seeing that it happened in a span of 10 minutes, maybe a network problem. When calling non-Tmobile people, outgoin...

The Phone ringing twice and going to vm that is not an issue with your phone thats an issue with the lines your calling.

What is the big deal about the LCD staying lit. I never understood this.

and yes if you press and hold the volume button for a second the screen will light up while closed.

Hi,

The wrinkle effect you talked about is true with most phones now. I dislike it myself that is why I went back to suing the Nokia 6200 from 2004 because that phone does not do that. New phones nowadays are so much easier to destroy and damage and they cost so much that it is not worth it. Nokia phones from 2002 to 2004 are the best phones to use. Sure they may not have features but they will last for years.
