Buying T-Mo at Costco

This is something for all you guys living in different markets to research. I found out that at Costco, you can get a Samsung t809 for $190, with a $100 rebate, and no activation fee, and the most interesting part is their return policy. If you bash the phone against a wall, drop it in water, or do anything to destroy the phone, you can just bring it by any costco and get a store credit for another phone! Basically you'll get a brand new one, on the spot, for free instead of getting a refurbished one shipped to you and getting screwed for $10.

The only problem with Costco is that they ONLY activate 2 year contracts, and they only sell 4 or 5 different phones. But that return policy beats Asurion. I don't know about you guys but I've ...

Can you show up a copy of their return policy that says this? If so, they are shooting themselves in the foot if they aren't charging you for some sort of extended service plan (warranty) of their own.

I wouldn't bet on the zero activation fee thing. I've had to clean up Costco's mess plenty of times to be able to tell people not to trust it. Remember you get what you pay for.

The Costco return policy is given to you when you sign up for a Costco account. Remember, you are paying $40 a year (which still beats the hell out of Asurion), and millions of people have Costco accounts anyways to buy other things.

Remember, this is Costco's return policy for ALL of their products, not just cell phones. Even if you buy a plasma TV there, if you drop it on the floor and it shatters to a million pieces, you can take it back and replace it, no questions asked. They might be shooting themselves in the foot, but they also seem to be making a lot of money.

thats costco's return policy. the phones that the cell kiosk (wireless advocates) sells is actullly costco property. so that is a valid statement.

the phones are owned by wireless advocates (aka car toys) when you go to return a phone to costco they will send you to the kiosk and it will intially be up to the wa rep on wether or not its returnable, of course if they say no you just need to find the closest manager, costco says jump wireless advocates say how high sort of thing. You can get a good deal there as long as you dont mind waiting up to 16 weeks for your many many rebates to come back.

They can't prevent T-Mobile from charging an activation fee which is why we have to clean up their mess. I think what they actually mean is that Costco won't charge an activation fee. I've heard of some indirect dealers that charge one on top of the activation fee from the cell carrier.

Hey there. I work for T-Mobile and was on the Costco account for a while. The inventory is owned by Costco. Wireless Advocates provides a rebate to cover the activation fee. The paperwork is a little tricky and yes folks, the customer must follow directions to get the rebate. Imagine that. the inventory is owned by Costco no Wireless Advocates, a division of Car Toys. the reps in the kiosk will often say no to an exchange but it is ultimately a Costco decision. They are wierd though, they wont do it as an even exchange. They make you do a refund, go back to the kiosk for another pickup slip, then back to a register to pay again and then back to the pick up counter. All deals require $39.99 or higher and 2 year. They will sell the 1 y...

Wireless Advocates doesn't take care of the activation fee. We now have a $35 activation credit directly from T-Mobile that will show up as a credit within 8 weeks (about the 2nd bill cycle.)
