if a phone is a quad-band, will it have better reception?

the t809 has quad-band and i was wondering if this would mean better reception than say a triband. t-mobile network already has bad reception as it is, so i want a phone that gets the best reception it can with t-mo's service.
More bands does not equal better signal. More bands means more places all over the world that you can use the phone, in the most simplistic terms. Overall, Nokia gets the best reception.

If you live in North America and use your phone in North America anything other than the two bands used for GSM here won't do you any good unless you're traveling to Cuba where they use GSM 900.
