Get Ready for 21Mbps on T-Mobile 3G Next Year

Mobile broadband is a wonderful and glorious invention, giving us the ability to surf the Internet while on the go. This is great not only for smartphones, but also for 3G-connected laptops and netbooks too. The trouble is that the speed offered by today’s 3G networks still isn’t as fast as what we would get through a conventional DSL or Cable connection. That may soon be changing.

We know that network speeds are being bumped up all the time, but it seems that T-Mobile is ready to really push the envelope with its 3G network. More specifically, T-Mobile USA says that its HSPA+ 3G speeds will be getting ramped up significantly in the next year or so, hitting the 21Mbps range at some point in 2010.

To put that in

I'm calling the BS flag on this one. There are still Tmo areas with NO 3G.

And there will remain areas with no 3G, just like on every carrier. 3G enabled towers are really expensive and there are many areas that are just not worth it. Its purely good business not to invest your budget in areas that won't bring in a profit. If you have 5000 towers and you have a budget to make 1000 of them 3G, then 4000 towers won't get upgraded. Its that simple. I don't understand why so many people can't understand that. And going to HSPA and HSPA+ from HSDPA is not an expensive upgrade because all the upgrades occur purely on the backbone side. Its much more a software upgrade than a hardware upgrade.
And its already being deployed in Philadelphia so go ahead and call BS: you're already wrong.

What will the actual
real world/end user speeds be? Because the "advertised speeds" and the actual speed the end user gets are 2 completly different speeds.

Won't know this until it launches. And cell phones share bandwidth, so it will also depend where you are and how many people are connected to the tower.

Hasn't HSPA+ already launched in Philly? We still need devices to support it though. I don't know if you read my other post or not, but next October I intend on leaving ATT for Tmobile and getting the next version of the Nokia N900.

My Nokia rep said T-Mobile will be receiving up to 5 Nokias with touchscreen next year. She didn't know the OS on any of them. I hope she is correct, because if there are that many at least one is bound to be running Maemo!

Yes! Interesting indeed!
Thx for the info. Once 2010 gets here we're never gonna look back! The next version of the N900 for $400 or less on Tmo is much, much better than $583 on Tmo from Amazon, that's how much the N900 currently is on Amazon, I thought it was going to be much more than that, but it's actually cheaper than the N97.
