I read they did away with all the suncom plans. Is this true and did they let you out of your contract if you didn't want to change?

There are no more Suncom plans however you can keep your current Suncom plan till your contract expires. Even after that they most likely will allow you to continue for some time afterward.

And no you cannot get out of your contract for that reason since you can keep your plan.

People can't start new SunCom plans, but if they already have one they can add a line without isssue.

T-Mobile has good record to honor grandfathered stuffs, I even read some hofo members still have Voicestream/Omnipoint plans
except:
1. you want to buy new phones with contract price
2. you want to add services (SunCom plans may not be compatible)
3. customers want to "upgrade" to promo plans
...
