Wifi calls

A representive told me a week before I got my Shadow that she could make calls on wifi networks without using her anytime minutes. SHe had a blackberry (don't remember exactly which one.) Now I have my shadow and I'm wondering if this is true. I tried calling back and asking another rep and he said no. I thought signing up for the t-mobile unlim internet access would do the trick but he said nope.

Can anyone helpp me with this? Do I need to sign up for the t-mobile hotspot at home deal or something?

The curve 8320 BB has ability to connect voice calls either thru cell phone signals or UMA(hotspot@home)using a wi-fi network.
Shadow is not equipped to handle UMA therefore can not make calls using wi-fi network.
Both units are capable of making internet connections using either Wi-Fi or cell phone radio signals. When you use wi-fi for internet, you are not using your cell phone minutes at all.

Hotspot@home is the feature that you are talking about. What this feature allows you to do is talk unlimitedly for free while your in a place that has wifi. This feature is only good for 3 phones though and yes the BLACKBERRY CURVE is one of the phones. The other to phones are the Nokia 6086 and the Samsung t409

Will you be able to utlize the service via an unsecured wireless network?

Also, in wifi areas that require log in information to be provided (such as a school network) how will this work out?

The Shadow can support WiFi calling using a third party application however so don't discount it if you are looking for VoIP. Check Handango out or google windows mobile 6 wifi calling programs it is just not compatible with T-Mobiles Hot Spot at home plans.
