Thinking of switching from VZW

Hello all,
I am currently a VZW customer and have been for quite some time now. I had the XV6700 for about 6 months until I decided that paying $100 a month was too much. I ended up selling it. But now I miss the ability to get online anywhere I am. Especially since I'm looking for a new job.
My main concern is coverage. I spend almost all of my time in metropolitan areas. I currently live in Phoenix. I do travel sometimes to Vegas, California, and will have to drive to Minnesota here in the near future.
My buddy works for T-Mobile and loves it. I have one other friend who really doesn't go out of the city and thinks T-Mobile is great.
I'm looking to purchase the Black Berry Pearl. Because of its compact size and versatility. A...

1000 mins with unlimited txt and unlimited data for 50$ a month? got a link to that?

and to answer your question, yes Tmobile offers about half the service of VZW.

I see the plan. its 59.99. it gives you 1000 minutes but it gives you ZERO nights and weekends and ZERO mobile to mobile minutes. the data that Tmobile has is also not 3g so its not the same.

You pay more for verizon but you get broadband and you get unlimited nights and weekends and unlimited in calling to 61 million people. thats a much better value then 1000 minutes period if you ask me. You also get new every 2 credit every 20 months (not with tmob) and the verizon network is the best.

actually depending on where you are and where you travel, it may be a great deal for you. for example the best network that midnight is speaking of has absolutely no coverage here, however at&t and t-mobile are fully covered. for what you are looking at i would go with t-mobile. 3g will be available in the near future, which has been tested and is faster than verizon or at&ts versions.
hope that helps

well first of all for midnights comment t-mobile was rated number one over vzw and att in 30 major markets in the us, and yes a majority of metropolitan areas by jd power & assoc...i work in az and we are top dog in the west for metropolitan areas, and as far as the plans, you could always get our promo rate plan for 1,000 anytime mins and nights and weekends for 39.99, then you can add the bb package for 20.00 more a month, and with unimited text for 14.99, since the bb plan only has sms, this bundle come with pic mess as well...yes we will be coming out with 3g in the near future, oh and another thing we have been voted 5 years running best customer service by jd power...yes our plans do not come with m2m included because we don't force th...

How do you know it will be faster than AT&Ts and Verizon, and that its coming in the near future since you are with AT&T? I hope T-Mobile covers more 3G ground than the competition and at a very good price like they do now.

my wife works for aeroflex and was one involved in the test, verizon was slowest, i forget the speed, then att at close to projected umts at 1.46 mbps, and t-mobile that they expected at hsdpa speeds actually came in in hsupa speeds of 3.22 mbps. these tests were conducted using the latest upgraded miNT.

i've been with vzw for 4 years, i like the new every 2 and i get great coverage but it's really expensive.

my issue is for a nice phone i have to pony up 100-200 up front with tmobile and wait for my rebate. with verizon you get the instant discount online.

besides that, i dont really see a phone i like with tmobile.

i am thinking about staying with verizon and getting the ENV.

does tmobile even offer customers good discounts for upgrade phones?

Every 21 months in my market on a 24 month contract, your eligable for an upgrade. The upgrades are the same cost as if you were to activate. In my store anyway.

the reason why i asked is because verizon gives you a 100 credit towards the contract price so you end up paying less than you would if you were opening a new account

for example

LG env
retails $349.99
1 yr contract $ 249.99
2 yr contract $199.99
$50 online discount
new every 2 $100 discount

so if i decide to renew for 2 years i will pay $50 for the phone

i was wondering if tmobile upgrade prices were comparable in that way

Yea but thats for only 1 or 2 phones on a family plan? correct? T-mobile with a family plan for everyline your using the new two year contract price.

for example

Moto Rizr
without contract is like $350
with a 2 year its $150 with a $50 rebate
everyline gets that not just the first 1 or 2

I was also a former VZW customer who switched over to T-Mobile at the end of June. I live in the S.F. Bay area, but travel quite a bit up to Seattle and down to L.A. and have had no problems anywhere with coverage. Where I got 2-3 bars with VZW in my apt in Oakland, I now receive a full 5 with T-Mobile. I am also formerly from Minnesota and still travel back there once a year...also have friend's and family there. T-Mobile has a big footprint and great coverage in the Mpls/St. Paul area, so that should not be a problem for you.

My reason for switching was also due to cost. I was toying with the idea of getting the Pearl due to it's size/weight and direct e-mail push, also the BB add-on is $10 bucks less, but decided personally on the...

My main two concerns are price and coverage.
If I were to stay with VZW I would be paying $300 for a phone with a new two year contract. If I switched to T-Mobile I would pay $150 for the phone and about half as much for the monthly fee. I don't think that VZW has BB only plans, but T-Mobile does at a discounted rate. My average minute usage per month is between 300 and 400. That includes nights, weekends, and M2M. Like I mentioned in my first post, I spend almost all of my time in large cities. So roaming isn't a huge issue, but its nice to know that T-Mobile is expanding their coverage area.
I know someone else mentioned connection speed. My buddy who works for T-Mobile and another friend who has VZW went to San Diego and the T-Mo...

I've never really had a chance to use VZW's EVDO, but a friend has the Q, and yes, the load times can be and are pretty fast on EVDO...but I've never really had a bad issue with T-Mobile ever being really slow. Pages, websites, etc., seem to load pretty fast for me, so I have no complaints with EDGE for what I need and use it for. I'm very pleased over all with T-Mobile's service.

😁

I work for a company that rates, tracks, and verifies coverage and usability of wireless services all over the U.S. I am in charge of the Northwest Division and spend a lot of time on the west coast. I use different carriers daily, in different areas, for different things.

By far, Verizon is the most consistent in otherwise rural or dead areas. Verizon's INTERNET is far more useful and reliable than most. And it is simply hands sown the fastest.

That being said, they are more expensive, and have a less intriguing selection of phones. Verizon specifically waits for other carriers to come out with equipment so they can have the mass returns and troubleshooting. It's a fine business idea, but sometimes leaves customers with less ap...

keep in mind to that yes tmobile has great low price plans and data packages with more minutes for less money. also as a representative from vzw i hate to say it but yes also top customer service. But also realize most importantly that you get what you pay for. Not to cut down tmobile but they just dont have it built up network wise to the size or reliability to verizon, sprint, or att. now i know they are currently working on their 3g network but they still have a ways to go. ecspecially with all of verizon broadband areas now updated to rev a speeds. and in reliability there isn't anyone close to verizon in that category. And trust me i totally understand the price difference between verizon and the other carriers and i see that on my bill...

Thanks. Yea and if thats the case i totally agree with you. if nationwide travel is not in your plans and yet you receive good service from t mobile in your area, then go for it. ecspecially with their pricing. like i said i work as a rep for vzw and their prices are among the highest if not the highest in the industry. but if the service satifies you then thats all that matters.

I agree with what you said earlier vzwjeff that vzw has a great nation wide coverage. when I moved my sister to MN the truck I was driving broke down right between Albuquerque and Amarillo, literally the middle of nowhere. I had one bar of signal and was able to call for help.
Now, nationwide travel by car is not in my major plans. If I were to go anywhere it would mostlikely be by air. Besides SoCal and Vegas, but they are not that far of a drive.
I'm mainly going to be in metro areas, usually Phoenix or Seattle, so urban use would be at a minimun.
Thanks for all the input. 🙂
